The gobbler I hunted this morning flew over my food plot mix with a lot of crimson clover to go to a small stand of white clover.

Crimson clover is certainly the easiest to grow and maintain. I have 3acres i bushhog twice a year, thats it. Its been going 8yrs now.

Gobble is right about the Deer Magnet. I'm a big fan.

I've seen a lot of white clover in the craws this year

I plant Durana. Deer and turkeys love it and it's more drought tolerant than other white clovers.

any of them until they get more than 8-10” tall. i spray a strip or 2 of cleth in all of my fields so they can have just clover that’s typically shorter than the unsprayed sections of the field that have cool season grains. they love the wheat heads later in the spring

Do you guys round up your fields in the summer if you plan on establishing a clover patch in the fall?

Spray, wait 2 weeks, disk, wait 2 weeks And evaluate
Repeat up to 2-3 times.

Should help to starting with a clean plot. Then there’s a variety of chemicals to help once established. Imazathapyr, Imox, Butyrac and Clethodim depending on what the problem weeds are and any companion/follow up crops. Imox is good but no oats for 12 months. Butyrac handles most broadleaves but takes away the chance to add chicory. Not sure on the specific details of Imazethapyr aka Pursuit or Thunder. Butyrac must be applied before most weeds get to 3-6” to be really effective.

"Cull" is just another four letter word...

No, butyrac is for broadleafs. Bush hog the rye then spray with clethodim. The cleth may kill it now but with it being that height it may take it a while.

Thanks, I planned on leaving it tall and possibly bushogging it down around June after turkey poults get a little bigger. I hope they will bug in it and use it as cover. My clover is anywhere from 5-8” tall at this point. I planted the elbon as a cover crop to get it established but just don’t know what is best to do next.

We have planted all types and turkeys would rather just be in any old pasture than any clover field from what I can tell.

I’ve been wanting to establish some clover plots, but this would be my luck.

I have 2 fields of whitetail clover I planted specifically for turkeys. However, when I checked the craw on ones I've killed they always have more dandelion than anything else.
