Everything I've seen on durana clover seeding rates say 3lbs to the acre. Is this accurate? That seems very low compared to most clover seeding rates. I'll be adding Regal graze ladino, yuchi arrowleaf for some first year annual production and berseem clover to the mix in a few of the wetter spots in the plots. What would you guys suggest as a seeding rate for this mix with durana being the backbone?

It depends on whether you drill or broadcast. I broadcast onto existing vegetation so always double the rate if an in-ground rate is recommended. Or there are some websites that have both suggested rates I.e. greencover seed.

Also, see if that rate is for pure live seed or coated seed. 3# of PLS might be 6-8# after you factor the coating and germination %.

"Cull" is just another four letter word...

It spreads aggressively. Plant in the fall, and it establishes over the winter and then in the spring and summer it takes off. Second year it really goes. Mine has spread into places I struggled to get stuff to grow.

Thanks fellas. I always go a little bit heavier with coated seed. Just have never seen a seeding rate that low on clover. I've heard some really good things about durana and wanted to give it a try on a few of my plots this year.

I’d plant 7-8 lbs per acre if coated and broadcast.

This is probably obvious to most everyone, but the trick to spreading such a small seed and small amount per acre is to mix a pound or two with a lot of fertilizer when broadcasting. Obviously mix well before hand.

I’ve mixed small seeds with sand with good results when using a larger application device. I don’t usually fertilize at the time of planting anymore.

I thought durana was 5 lbs for a new planting and 3 lbs to overseed

I've seen 3 lbs and 5 lbs. But I've seen 3 lbs more often than 5 lbs.

I spread it with a little hand spreader on the lowest opening and try to walk really fast.

I planted mine 5lbs to the acre last fall mixed with a little crimson and elbon. It was growing very heavy before that hard freeze around Christmas and kind of got knocked back. It has since made a strong recovery and is coming in thick and lush. May have to over seed some areas come fall but I won’t have to disc and plant for a while I hope.
