I took a BLR 7mm08 in a trade a couple years ago. Beautiful rifle, bluing is damn near perfect, wood has a few shallow scratches. I plan to kill a deer with it this coming year. I’ll be working up a load with it in the next couple of weeks starting with Sierra 140 GKs and varget. I know every rifle on the internet is a tack driving, one hole shooting 1/4 moa rifle. I can appreciate that but what kind of accuracy can I realistically expect? Is 1 moa doable or is 1.5-2 moa the norm?

Ive had more than a few, and most would go moa and even less for 3x, but were load specific to get there. I will say that the 358s were more for giving, and I don’t recall any of the 308s, 243s, or the one 7-08 being ‘bad’ with anything I fed them….bad woulda been much past 1.5-2 moa. They have good barrels and good potential, IME.

My dad has one that is in that same range. Probably closer to 1.5. He’s killed a bunch of deer with it.

I hear from blr folks that most prefer heavy grain bullets as a general rule of thumb.

Some on hear will act like 1.5 to 2 moa is horrible and any rifle that doesn't shoot 1/2 moa or less needs to go to the scrap pile. I bet it shoots fine and good luck with it this season.

my lightweight 358 Win is good for ~1-1.25" 100 yds with Hornady Factory. Not done any reloading for it yet. Would not hesitate to 200 yds, but not gonna happen in my thick woods I hunt! IMO and limited experience, a BLR will shoot as well as a bolt gun for hunting accuracy AND probably better than a lot of shooters!

Not to sidetrack, but what price range do these BLR’s fall in. I have one that has sat in the safe and never even put a round in it. If they shoot as well as what is listed above I might have to take it to the woods a time or two. It just feels different to me. I love Brownings and bought this one thinking I would hunt some with it but the Tikka is my favorite now.

Model and condition matter like with all rifles, but a standard wood blued rifle can be anywhere from 800 to 1200 and sometimes more for other models( stainless takedown, etc )

I guess I'll load up a few and see what she'll do. It came with an older gloss vari-xII.

My son has saved money he's making @ his first job and just bought a BLR in 308. We got the scope mounted a few days ago, but they been working him so much we haven't had time to shoot it yet. I know it sure is pretty and light and it sure points good.

My .243 likes lighter bullets for some reason.

I’ve owned a few. 1.5 is what I’ve experienced. Had one that was a 1 inch gun. The trigger is the biggest hurdle.

1-1.5 is acceptable accuracy from a BLR. I've had several and all would get in that range, albeit one required handloads to get under 2" and it was a sold 1-1.25" after I found something it liked.

That's easily good enough accuracy for a hunting rifle. This isn't a precision bolt gun.

i have 2 blur’s and love them. one is belgium.308 that shoots everything well; but loves 168 grain and as long as i do my job it is a 1” mia. the other is a japan made .358 and after finding the right cartridge (180 grain); it is equally as accurate. hope you enjoy yours as much as i have mine. i would also add to not go with a large diameter scope.

We went with super low Leupold rings and the scope lines up with his eye just right. It fit a 40mm VX3 fine ,once we pulled the rear sight off and he can get to the hammer just fine.

Got a Browning (Elite 4200) 2-7x32 on my 308. Suits it perfectly.

2.5-8 Leupold on mine.

It's critical to get the scope mounted low on these IMO otherwise you have your neck on the stock in short order. The chin weld is real if not property setup.

Well, I got the BLR to the range this week She didn't like Sierras and Varget at all, 2.5-5" groups. Switched to Hornady 139 gr SSTs and Varget, better but still not acceptable. SSTs and H4350 show promise at the upper end of book range. 49.0 and 50.0 gr held 1.25-1.5" and were repeatable with 2 different 3 shot groups for each. I'm happy with that for this one. Thanks for the help guys.

Can’t wait to see some pics of her in the field this fall. Glad to hear you found a load that would work.
