Have any of you piddled with it?

Use it a little for ratio calculation explanations for work. Every time I get an answer I’m blown away at the detail of the answer to my question.

It is amazing. I have used it to support sunday school lessons

I have used it and am blown away. I write a good bit as part of my job, have for 20 years. I ran a comparison recently for a congratulatory add for my daughters play bill for school. I spent 30 minutes and wrote one weaving the theme of the play into mine. I ask it to write a second one, told it I need a conragtulatory add for my daughters, the name of the play and in 10 seconds it wrote one twice as good as mine. It is unbelievably capable, I now use it to proof read what I write and make it better.

From an engineering professional those who learn to use and leverage this new tool will out compete everyone who doesn’t in short order. We are seeing tons of benefits from AI driven research, modeling, optimization and design.

My buddy is a computer programmer and he basically has it write all of his code for him.

Kids are going to cheat their way thru college using this software. Wonder if the professors have some sort of way to figure if the program did the work for them?

There are other AI programs that can tell you if the paper was written by an AI program.

Bet that it won't work so well for 4.0 or higher versions of GPT

Personally I see it as a crutch. I believe people will begin to rely on it versus using it for improvement and then the talent base as a whole will suffer. It’s already difficult to find young SME’s in the particular industry I’m in because instead of learning material this generation of soldiers has completely relied on what a computer has told them. My generation was the last of the textbook, read and learn group of workers and even some folks my age have defaulted to the easy button of technology. It’s painfully obvious when we’re in strategy sessions or wall walks and certain individuals can’t answer questions without researching the answers. If we get to a point where we’re relying on an AI algorithm to give us the answers for everything who is V&V’ng the integrity of the outputs and are they doing so without bias? Even AI algorithms must be trained so are they trained to steer answers or conversations in certain directions? Will they allow for engineering judgment on reliability calculations? Will they recognize non-binary genders? How hard is it to train the algorithm to do what you want, even if it’s nefarious? How long till Russia or China figure out how to train it and pour resources into doing so. I say all that to mean, proceed with heavy caution. While cool, these things aren’t the end all be all.

Yup. Make them do the work in a classroom with a pen and paper and no access to electronic gadgets. It actually works.

Artificial Intelligence platform. Type in a question or research topic and the return is a thorough, accurate and cohesive response on the subject.

I have talked to multiple instructors that are going to pen and paper for assignments in class. Two of our acquaintances work at alabama and that is their solution, although they are poly-sci instructors so they can do that.

Those who can actually reason, make things and do real work will survive, it is a tool like a computer or word or excel you will be better off technically knowing how and when to use it but it will never replace “capable hands”, true understanding and experience. Look at the transformation cnc machining made, it didn’t replace master machinist but it made average ones more capable. The masters machinist who picked up CNC still out produce everyone else as there are things like fixturing, and material sciences that were learned from years of experience. I learned a ton from old school manual master machinist, and will forever be grateful, but we now look for operators who can run CAD auto generate code and has good intuition on how to approach complex part setups.

I asked it to write a media release for a new business venture I’m working on. I may end up using it...

You can correct it and have it redo it works really well if you keep correcting it or giving it clearer instructions based on its previous output.

The electricians and plumbers are going to get the last laugh. The days of people making $100k rapping out a few paragraphs on their Mac at Starbucks as a journalist or marketer are numbered.
