I've used both. A zero turn mows relatively flat ground much faster than a tractor-style mower, but zero turn mowers don't do well on hilly/steep grades and even less so if the grass is even a little bit wet (hard to keep control of the machine; wants to spin in uncontrolled directions).

The tractor will hug your yard better and you'll get a lot better cut over rougher lawns, the zero turn will cut your time in half but be 3 times higher priced...I guess it depends how anal you are about your yards appearance and how much money you want to spend along with your time....
Did you know that Beer Nutz are over a Dollar...and Deer Nutz are under a Buck...

Learned that lesson the hard way. I would also add, if your grass isn't thick, a zero turn will tear it up.

Go zero turn. Gives you more cut pattern options so you dont rut your yard. Also faster.

If you have hills and a yard with few or no trees ,flower beds and other stuff, I'd say a tractor would do fine. But if you have a lot to mow around zero turn all the way. I had a Kubota diesel 54 in cut tractor for many years. I sold it and bought a 54 in cut Hustler z turn. Both had the same top speed. My yard has a large open area, where most of the mowing time is.. The z turn didn't help me enough to talk about. MOF, when I fill that big Kawasaki gas tank, I wish I had the B7100 Kubota back. The Kubota had a smaller tank than the Hustler but I could mow it twice on a tank. The Hustler, I better have it full or I run out and it has a bigger tank.
