Generally. They'll tell you how high the mount measures to the thousandth. Or they did when I asked that one time.

I'll ignore ugly to avoid lapping.

Never had to lap a set of Talley rings. They specifically say don't do it.

Matter of fact, last set of lapped rings I saw were Leupold, and should not have been lapped. Front ring wasn't turned square to the base, and he lapped trying to correct that.

I've seen it. I've seen scopes jacked up by Talleys. One set was just made wrong. Fella should have swapped for a good set. The other, the reason was the gun wasn't tapped exactly square. Lapping was necessary.

That's just facts. Opinion wise, I don't think DNZ are pretty. If you spend lots of time admiring your guns I suggest Conetrol.

I've seen one rifle not tapped square. It was sent back to the factory and they fixed it.

Have received a mismatched set of Talley Lightweights. Called them and they asked for the number on the bottom. Guy immediately said that ain't right, and sent me a replacement next day air.

I'm always amazed at the difficulty in mounting a rifle scope.....

DNZ are a solution looking for a problem IMO, in all other respects they are just the most ugly option.

I don't lap rings. Never have... did it a couple times and realized it was a total waste.

No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

They are ugly but bomb proof. I will give up some in the looks dept for performance.

Probably never a need to lap if the operators keep the tools changed out or compensate when wearing. Modern CNC machines are amazingly accurate as long as the operator does their part.
