And if you know of a cheaper place or local place to get them, that would be great as well.

The duke dp's are about as good as you're gonna get and cost less to rig out! Add 4 feet of chain and a snap to attach to trees and your done!

Guys at our club use the ones that are spring loaded. They put Marshmellows in them, and when the coon reaches in, grabs em. Can't remember what they are called though.
Life is a journey. Make sure and bring plenty of Beer.
My luck has been so bad lately, it could be raining pussies and I'd catch one with a dick broke off in it.

I've got the Duke's too. I like em. I started using them in mid January I guess. I ran them for about 3 weeks. Four Coons, five possums and 2 feral cats did not like them at all.

Is the tool they sell that is used to set the trap needed?

Is the tool they sell that is used to set the trap needed? No! Use a screwdriver or your hands if you're strong enough!

Agreed. I just use both hands and choke the living schit out of them. LOL Once I get the spring down enough, I pull the dog down with my right middle finger. Once you get ahold of the dog, you've got it whipped.

Barry I learned this the hard way. Whether you attach the trap to a tree, or stake it to the ground, don't put it close enough to something that a coon can get wrapped up in it. They will break their leg and pull/chew their foot off.
Also, if you are trapping where the ground is hard or in heavy clay, wallow the trap stob hole out good so the coon can easily pull the trap up, or you get the leg break, foot off then too...

And if you know of a cheaper place or local place to get them, that would be great as well. I got some of the Duke DP traps from the local co-op in Clanton, Check out Tractor Supply in Millbrook, they may have them.

I used some of those type of traps down at Portland one weekend. Caught 4 coons in one night out of a dozen sets. Of course, that place was covered up with them.

If anyone is looking for more information on the Duke DP coon trap, here is a short post on my blog, with a little video as well.
