Car-jacking attempt leaves one person dead in Huntsville

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – One man is dead after attempting to steal a car at a business on Mastin Lake Road, according to the Huntsville Police Department (HPD).

A spokesperson for HPD said that officers responded to a shooting call at a business in the 2900 block of Mastin Lake Road shortly after 6 a.m.

When one man left his vehicle and went into the business, another man attempted to steal the vehicle, investigators say. Thats when authorities say the vehicle’s owner came back out, he confronted the man, asking him multiple times to get out.

HPD said the man then attempted to drive away, and the vehicle owner fired his weapon at him.

The spokesperson said the man attempting to steal the car was transported by HEMSI with life-threatening injuries but was pronounced dead at Huntsville Hospital.

After reviewing the case with the Madison County District Attorney’s Office, it was determined no charges will be filed at this time, the HPD spokesperson said. The case will be presented to a Madison County Grand Jury at a later time.

Just an FYI - Mastin Lake Rd is solidly in the north east part of Huntsville. 90% chance they were both minorities.

Hopefully the DA will understand the shooter saved the taxpayers the time and expense of throwing the POS thief in jail.

Why not? That’s what’s wrong with today’s society. These knuckle dragging inbreds think they can just run ram shot over people and take what they want with no repercussions. It’s time for more people to stand up and fight for what’s theirs and their bullchit will stop. If all of those security guards / policemen would have started laying those thieves out way back when Katrina hit there wouldn’t be all of these crash and grabs going on today. Used to if you stole a horse and you were found in possession of said horse by the end of the day you were swinging at the end of a rope. Society needs to get back to swift and said justice.

That's exactly what should be allowed to happen and it should be perfectly legal to do so. Start capping all these thieves, it wont take many times before they say "hmmm, Orangejello and Lemonjello both got 2 in the chest and one in the forehead yesterday from that cracker when they tried to steal his truck. Same thing happened to Raffert and Buford, in the next town over, when they tried to steal the CC's off that lady's honda last night. Maybe messing with people's stuff isnt such a good idea anymore." Word would spread like wildfire.

Car jackings and such didnt happen very often 40 yrs ago and the reason they didnt was because people knew they stood a chance of great bodily harm or even dying if they attempted it. RCHRR is 100% correct. Society needs to get back to swift and sometimes fatal justice and crime will decrease exponentially overnight. 30 Years ago, my cousin in MS caught a dope head white boy in his jeep stealing his wallet and stereo while it was parked under his carport at his house. He's a big ol boy and the guy tried to fight his way to freedom. Bad move. He beat the guy so bad that they took him from his house to the hospital in an ambulance and guy stayed in the hospital for a week. No charges filed and I bet that guy had a hard time stealing anything ever again, after my cousin stomped on both his hands and most likely broke every bone in them. That right there is how you deter future criminal activity. This time served, 30 days in jail, 2 yrs probation, warning stuff isnt working but I'll guarantee you "the above" worked then and would work again today.

I’m for gun control , a good aim at your target . Thieves get turned out to do it all over again by our court system. Cousin had his daughter’s prize horse saddle stolen by one of the recently released state inmates . He was detained and released by 3 different law departments. Court system released him in less than 48 hrs from each . Not the cops .

While this may be a wonderful concept, it is not the law. Now if the car owner or police have evidence for the Grand Jury that would make them believe that his life or the life of another was in jeopardy, then it will be No Billled and he walks.
