Thanks, fellows, for all the comments, suggestions, and lessons on how to hit a flying target such as dove or skeet. This has been fun, and I mean that sincerely. I'm planning to practice Saturday with skeets if I can convince my wife to throw them with the hand thrower.
Here's where we are with the ALDEER wing shooting lesson. To hit a flying target, you must do this:
--> figure out which eye is dominant (completed: I'm right eye dominant) --> make sure your shotgun fits by measuring drop at comb, length of pull, and cast (complete on the first two; my guns have no cast that I can see) --> use the drinking straw trick to make sure you're seeing flatly down the rib (complete: that's a really good technique)
Then, without thinking about it and completely by instinct you must:
--> quickly see and assess the target --> calculate speed, angle, & direction subconsciously --> don't think about it --> mount your shotgun (the very same way every time) --> don't look down the barrel; don't look at the bead --> see the bird or skeet across the barrel (don't look at the bead or barrel) --> see the bird's tail feathers, then his body, then his eye, then his beak --> swing the gun smoothly either from behind to pass the bird OR just throw up and slap the trigger with a snap shot --> don't try to calculate lead; be instinctive; your brain knows --> your eyes know where to look; hopefully your eyes and hands are in sync --> at a point that some people call "lead" and some don't, take the shot --> keep the gun moving through the sweep and follow through --> if you're going to miss, miss out front --> all this must happen in one to two seconds

If you can find a trap or skeet range, there's most likely a seasoned shooter out there willing to stand behind you for a round and give you some pointers. May not even have to ask, in some cases. I haven't shot in a while, but when I was shooting with a group of retired "shooters" every Thurs I had the best dove and duck seasons on shot-to-kill ratio. They were the ones that shot 99 of 100 at most every skeet competition, at one point or another. One of them was getting ribbed pretty hard by a doubter that didn't believe he could shoot as well as he'd always heard. So, the guy shot all stations of the skeet course with the gun behind his back and hit every target thrown and the doubter promptly apologized and shut his mouth...nuts! They gave me a LOT of helpful pointers, little stuff like on a going up and away shot to shoot just under to clay instead dead at it...I'm at ground level, the clay is going slightly up and away, so my shot string will intercept it instead of trying to overtake it and shooting over/behind it. Best thing practice gives is the confidence to quit overthinking it, trust your skills and worry about the target, not your form.
experience is a freakin' awesome teacher....

This ^^^^ You’d be better off closing both eyes and squeezing one off than trying to process all that gibberish

Take a lesson from a qualified instructor. The cost of one lesson will save you thousands of dollars of trying to learn on your on. I would like to do that if I could find an instructor and a skeet range. What does a day of instruction cost? $500, $1,000?

Seriously though any skeet range can help you. They’re a few around the shoals with good shooters. I know a guy that can fit guns and give solid instructions if you’re interested.
Todd Nelson is his name and lives in Cherokee.

No. Should be anywhere from $50-100 per lesson, depending on the facility, and usually includes clays for the rounds. You supply gun, ammo, eye and ear protection.

Todd Nelson is his name and lives in Cherokee. How about this: Todd and I were in high school together at Cherokee (he’s 4 years older than I). It’s been years since I spoke with him though, and he may not remember me that well. If you see him tell him I need to purchase a few hours of shooting instruction.

Didn’t realize you went to Cherokee. Todd’s dad started the business of fitting high dollar guns to their shooters. He travels the circuit working on guns. Do you have Facebook? I can send you his page Here’s how you can reach him by google

I'd shoot at a stationary target on the ground to make sure you're shooting straight and hitting where you aim. practice instinct aiming by, looking at a target, close both eyes, point the gun, then open eyes. It's good for any gun really. when throwing skeets, start straight away from you, then slowly angle it horizontally assure proper stance

Here's where we are with the ALDEER wing shooting lesson. To hit a flying target, you must do this:

IMO you're seriously overthinking it. This info above isn't bad, but trying to think of all of that can become overwhelming. Get some lessons from an instructor. Point and shoot. It'll come to you. Shooting birds or targets isn't brain surgery.
