Not consistent, some are spot on, some way off. At least in Jackson Co.

I lost half a greenfield and some of a road once we had family property surveyed a few years ago. Tax maps showed both on us. Ended up paying the man for another survey and lost out.

Don’t trust a gis maps. And all these hunting apps go by county gis maps. So be careful hunting close to property lines that are not clearly marked

Yeah, they show one on my place where the section lines don't intersect at the section corner. slap

A lot of times there is no "Correct" survey. Depends on the point of origin (established corner the survey is started from, old encroachments like fences, etc), old corners, etc. Usually it is the one "on the ground" that has been accepted by the adjoining landowners with old established corners. If the court gets involved they will set "Judicial Corners" which are concrete with the court case number stamped on them. I have seen 2 of these.

I had a GIS guru friend help me once with some habitat and wetland delineations. I had been walking the boundaries to map them using ESRI. Anyway, they were way off. He was able to determine why my handheld Garmin was off and go into some special software and shift all of the readings by a certain amount. I remember him saying something about having to pay up for anything under 3-5 feet. I had a unit that should have been closer by product design but for precise readings your regular GIS/GPS sucks. He is a big boss man at the EPA now so I doubt he deals with those issues anymore.

The lines on the forestry GIS site (link below) show a view of the property that corresponds with the tree lines. It’s not exactly like the county GIS nor Huntstand property lines. Haven’t found the section corner pin yet. I thought a section corner might be easy enough to find for a regular idiot. Apparently it’s idiot proof.
