I’d spend the extra money and buy the Duramax.

$1.50/gallon “extra” in some places is a tough pill to swallow for diesel Yeah , plus extra for the engine and much higher to service.

Finally seeing some trucks on the lots, looking hard at a 6.6 gas. Anyone have one, whado.you think Depends on what you gonna use it for. If recreational towing, gas all the way if it were me. I had one do the new Ford F250’s with the 7.3 gas motor. I towed a 34’ long 10k lb camper from here to Maine and back with no issue and never wanted for a diesel at any point in time doing it except for when it came to navigating the gas pumps with my rig. Most gas pumps are set up for soccer mom vans and not trucks pulling campers. Most places the diesel pumps have access for bigger units. That was really my only gripe. Diesel gets better fuel mileage, but man it would take a long time and a lot of miles to even out on maintenance costs and initial upgrade costs that a diesel motor brings. Also, factor in def purchases. Another con to a diesel truck is weight. The diesel option takes up almost 1k lbs of cargo capacity you gain that back with a gas burner.

After spending $2500 twice due to diesel particulate filter going out on an F250, no more late model diesel’s for me. If you ever have that problem, search out the man and have it deleted. Sounds the way a diesel should.

$1.50/gallon “extra” in some places is a tough pill to swallow for diesel 20 plus miles to the gal with the duramax. About 12 for the 6.6.

I upgraded from a f150 gas burner to a f250 diesel. The 150 got 17 mpg, the f250 gets 22 so it’s a wash

I have the 2022 3500 HD with 6.6 gas. Gets 14-15 mpg without a load. Roughly 12 with load I waited on a 2022 AT4HD with 6.6 gas for about 2-3 months before I decided to buy a A 1/2 ton. I don’t tow much or very heavy so 3/4 didn’t really make sense. The 6.2 I have now gets 15 in town 19-20 interstate. Pulling my 18’ center console I got about 12mpg. I think the 6.6 gas is a pretty decent motor. Got a buddy with a new 7.3 and he gets about 11-12 in town but he’s kinda hard on the throttle.

I'm inclined to the 6.6 too. I don't run far enough often enough to really justify or help a diesel.

Don't want to get on a soap box but we've got a small fleet of diesel trucks. The motor will last longer than the gas but everything around that motor is subject to failure at any given point. And the bills can reach in excess of $5k a visit if there is anything seriously wrong. If you can drive it under warranty this is a non-issue. But it's ridiculously expensive. Once warranty expires, the Stealership will arse rape you. Most at that point have some alleged "guru" at a small shop somewhere delete a bunch of crap off the motor so that it will continue to run. Gas mileage with a diesel under warranty in stock motor form is as bad as the gas motor if you are towing. They don't get good mileage towing IMO. Guys working for us have driven them 1/2 way across the country so I have a pretty good idea of the true MPG they get when pulling trailers. Not great.
That's your life with a diesel.
I personally have a Ford 250 with the big block gas and it will pull 6-7k around like it's not even back there. 10-12k and you know it's there but it's not a dog. It moves it just fine. 15k and you need the diesel. Although I have moved near 15k with the gas truck it was just too much for it on long grades but would still pull it. Short distances are workable. I just pulled 7000lbs back from South AL last week and I don't think I downshifted one time going up 65 albeit mostly flat. Ran 75-80 most of the way with it. On several long grades I was passing people and truck was rolling on like it was empty.
With a gas motor the around town gas mileage.. not great either. 12-14 is average. You don't get good mileage with any 3/4 ton truck IMO if this is a major concern re-evaluate. If you strip everything off your diesel you can get 20mpg. But again you gotta have some shop somewhere with a guru that's ready to work on your truck when your "tune" ain't just right.
That's pretty much your choice.
No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

Does the 6.6l gas come with the Allison transmission? Believe the Allison is only available with diesel.
