He made my grandmother a grandfather clock. Or I should say he started making her one, then she passed. He never finished it. I recently finished it too, for my wife. I'm gonna drag him to my house and get him to let me get a photo of him holding the shotgun, next to the clock. He lost his leg long ago to a hunting accident, with a 16 gauge side by side shotgun. That's the one in the photo.

He’s going to get a kick out of seeing your work. It will mean a lot to both of you. I never met either of my grandfathers, so I’m happy that you are able to have moments like this.

That is such a special project that I hope your son will appreciate just as much if/when it and the photo of your grandfather with it gets passed on to him.

Very nice. That's a lot of work. I had a thread on here a long time ago where I redid an old M1 Carbine stock. All I used was Boiled linseed oil thinned with mineral spirits and it turned out great.

That is just fine. The gun makers gun should take some lessons from you on what good wood looks like. You might need to teach the boys/girls at Remington how to do it.

FFP, that does look great! Definitely get a pic with your grandfather holding it, but also get one with the two of you together holding the shotgun. My guess is that shotgun just went from expensive to priceless. thumbup

It's in the thread a couple places. It's a Stevens Savage Model 311c. No date. The 311C is hard to find and difficult to date. Nobody really knows for sure.

Markings say
Selected Forged Steel (7U)
Proof Tested 16 Guage
2 3/4 inch Chamber
Stevens Model 311C
Savage Arms
WestField, MASS U.S.A.

That's the only markings I've found. I'm wondering if the 7U means anything, it must. But I'm not savy enough to find it.
