Got a question for you web-footed, deer-slaying goobers. It’s kind of an age-old question.
Remember back in the day, everyone talked about rubber-bottomed boots and rubber boots “holding in” your scent? Do you think there’s anything to that?

Before anyone else comments, I don’t think you can hide your scent no matter what you do if the wind is wrong. They are going to smell you no matter what.

Nope. I also think that it doesn’t matter as much anymore. Your present physical scent will have them running to the next county. Everywhere you go you leave residual scent. Where you walk through regardless of the boot, i think they can pick up on it but I’ve had plenty of deer cruise right down my path plenty of times.

They are also able to detect ground disturbance and the massive amount that's created by human feet compared to other animals......kbush posted a podcast one time with a guy that's supposed to be a scent expert that talked about this topic

I know people that hunted in rubber boots to hide their scent, yet they wore them in their trucks, at gas stations etc... I'd just laugh at them.

Pretty sure he means leaving your scent where you walk...

Speaking of boots I got a pair of those Lite Boots everyone was talking about. Those suckers and comfy and lite. Both those Lite boots weigh what one of my Lacrosse weigh.

Rubber boots alone will not protect you from a deers nose. However, if used properly they absolutely reduce their ability to detect where you’ve walked.

Yes. 30+ years ago I had the old Herman Survivor leather boots. I watched several deer hit my trail and leave the area tails up, and these are just the deer I could see.

Switched to a rubber boot and it was much better. Deer would sometimes pause when they hit my trail but didn't spook.

Walking through water on the way to the stand helps. A mud puddle near where you park and take them time to 'wash' your boots. That and a scent spray really helps to reduce the amount of scent you leave on the ground to an amount that is non threatening to deer.

Yep, see it all the time. I keep my hunting boots in the back of my 4 Runner. They are for the woods , not knocking around town.

However, mine look like a crime scene by the end of the season. Ain’t nobody got time to wash blood off.

Back in the day you could get a pair of Lacrosse that didn't stink to high heaven coated in mold release agent. I think that was before they were made in China.
