Anyone have any suggestions on places to eat in Columbia, Sc? Don’t want any chain restaurants and really not picky on the type of food, just want it to be really good.

Blue Marlin as stated above
Pearlz
Cola’s
Bourbon
Al’s Upstairs

That’s your more expensive options but they are worth the price.

D’s Wings
Tio’s
Real Mexico
Baker’s Sports Bar
No Name Deli

These are good lunch options that are easy on the wallet.

Avoid: Motor Supply Bistro, Cowboy’s Brazilian Steakhouse, Hall’s Chophouse
The food at these places is decent but not worth the price IMO. Others mileage may vary.

Maurice's, Rush's, Lizard's Thicket are local chains that are easy to find.

Don’t know about eating but if you like history the Confederate Relic Room is highly recommended.

Hey Ceehawk, going to be up at Fort Bragg next month. Got any suggestions on restaurants in around Fayetteville, Cameron area?

There was an Italian joint that I went to about 6 years ago when we were playing a rugby tournament in Fayetteville. It was some count. Dang if I can’t remember the name of it though. Not sure if he is still active but there was a member here that moved from Bama up to the Fayetteville area. Thinking he had military ties to Bragg. Again, been a while, so don’t remember his handle. Maybe he still pops in from time to time and will see this.

My daughter lives in Pinehurst. All kinds of good places to eat there. Betsy’s crepes for breakfast!

A little more out of the way are the Kingsman for steaks, Big Ts for hash, Jimmy's hotdogs.

La Brasca pizza if you gotta have pizza. Its not local flavor it's just really good and been around since forever. They got flooded out awhile back and had to rebuild. People were actually in mourning for a bit.

More of the use up a per diem are Al's Upstairs and Mr. Friendlys. I don't consider them local flavor type places. I barely escaped being related to the boy behind Mr. Friendly's. So I guess it is all the same

Blue Marlin was great today! Both places we ate were really good food and priced a lot lower than we expected (about $50 at each place for me and the wife). Thanks again for the suggestions, they were spot on for what we were looking for.

Kingsman is some good stuff for sure. Used to live right next to there and would grab a good steak then mosey on to D’s for after meal beverages.

Glad you enjoyed it. When I lived in Charlotte, Columbia kind of had a bad name according to those folks. When I moved down and figured out the local scene it ended up being better than some of the over priced places in NC. Columbia reminds me a lot of Montgomery. Some great places to eat and drink, but just gotta know where to go and not go.

Maurices is a chain, but I think they started in Columbia. I ate at one there and the BBQ was good. The mustard based is good.

Blue Marlin is kind of a Charleston place to me. Speaking of, that's about where Maurice was from. His brother got the LowCountry and Maurice moved up to Cola. The brother made a smaller go of it and had a place in Mount Pleasant.

Maurice did so well he expanded to a chain around Columbia. They tried to cancel him around the time the first Confederate flag and statue flap started. Folks cared more about his BBQ than the Confederate history display in every restaurant. He used to run a commercial with a big ol' black gal going to the drive-thru talking about how much she loved his ribs. It's not the best BBQ in SC but they do it right and consistently well.

I think they serve Maurice's pulled pork for their sandwich at Rush's.

What was the place in Five Points that had a bathtub on the sign? I remember it as being a cowboy in a bathtub on the roof. Always had a Guiness or three when I went in there though.

That place was called Yesterday’s. Their brunch was awesome! Unfortunately they closed for good a couple of years ago.
