At first I thought, "no way would I spend that much extra for a light bulb". Then I figured, if they save me 80%+ on electricity and last 10 years, I'll do that. Guess what? They don't last 10 years. They last about what the old $.75 bulb used to. Maybe I'm buying the wrong ones, maybe I can buy the $10 per bulb ones and they'll last. Nope, not doing that. Damn greenie, climate change idiots got us again.

Nope, they have a computer timer sensor in them that makes them burn out precisely on a schedule. I put four in an over the sink bathroom fixture on the exact same day at the same time. They all burned out on the same day at the same time, they maybe lasted a year. For some of the fixtures in my house I went back to ordering the old fashioned bulbs online.

They can be very sensitive to voltage fluctuations. I buy a lot of bulbs for many different properties. When I noticed voltage issues with mechanical equipment seemed to align with several bulbs going out , I started buying Dimmable bulbs and the problem virtually disappeared.

Some of the ones guys have in trucks will make you see the hair on a racoon's arse at 1 mile away and blind the hell out of you!

LED or light emitting diodes will never burn out as they generate no heat. The driver that powers them are designed to burn out after design usage time. the older ones lasted a very long time but the never ones will burn out quickly..

I put them all in my house as the traditional ones blew. Over the bathroom sink, dining room table etc. Before I could even make a full round of replacements they were going out. A couple have actually lasted a few years but most went dark.

I went to the lighting store the other day. I was griping about the light bulbs and the lady told me incandescent bulbs would no longer be avalible beginning July. If they cam do it otherwise light bulbs they can do it with anything.

I'm going to start returning them. The bulbs I purchase show a 5yr life span and they don't make it 6mths.

yep, some of the drivers in them are garbage and are sensitive to voltage fluctuations like the other 2 posters stated.

Also heat can shorten life. Enclosed light fixtures can retain more heat.

I just replaced one in my kitchen that I put in when I bought my house 8 years ago.

I don’t think I’ve had any LED bulbs last more than one year in a fixture that gets used. Still better than the CFL bulbs which would either begin to flicker like Morse code after 2 months or take 20 to 30 minutes to actually light up. I understand that they theoretically use less electricity but I’m not keen on spending $300 on bulbs that last maybe a year to save $6 a month on my power bill.
Incandescent light is warm, both literally and aesthetically. And I’ve had bulbs that I couldn’t recall ever being changed. For 60 cents, not $8.

I write the date I install on the bulb with a Sharpie. If you want to get an idea of how long they really last do that. IMO not long.

I bet there is somebody in the hotel management business that could give the real lowdown on LED lightbulb costs vs energy savings vs cheap incandescent bulbs. I know they have toilet paper costs and cheap towel costs completely metricized to the penny.

I replaced all the bulbs in my previous house with LED and of course the new house has all LED. I doubt I've changed 5 bulbs in the past 5 years. I had one in a lamp that was bad out of the box, I called GE and the sent me a box of 10 bulbs as replacement.
Using LED bulbs and a ecobee thermostat helped take my power bill in an 80 year old farmhouse from around $300 to consistently under $200.

I've got no complaints.

I am running Cree bulbs all over my house. I write the date on the bulb when I install them. I have replaced a few but they have been 4-5 years old.

I don't have issues with the LED lights except I wish some bulbs were not so bright. The bright light is great for work spaces but the bright glare can be overwhelming at times even with the 'soft white' LED bulbs.

But I had some old incandescent bulbs in my last house that were never changed in 20 years.

Go figure...
