I want to go see one. Yes, I can ask my primary for recommendations but wanted to hear from the patient side for suggestions. I'm 43, high blood pressure which seems to be genetic. Been taking some meds but they only help a little. Haven't always had the healthiest habits but doing better now. I just want to get a full shake down with a specialist to see what I'm really working with. Who do you like in Birmingham?

My daughter has seen a congenital cardiologist at UAB since she was 2. I don’t think you fit in that category. We have always used Dr. Colvin. But he’s recently retired.

UAB is the only teaching hospital around. Depending on what you've got going on medically, they are literally years ahead of other groups on some of their procedures.

I guess if you had a rare form of leukemia and the only doctor in alabama that specializes in it is at UAB then you’d just choose to not get treated right? Them making you wear a mask just isn’t relevant in some case.

You realize that almost all medical facilities are like UAB in many ways, right?

They have policies people don't like, such as masks inside. They are "in business" with Pharma and other companies, companies that all will have something - one thing, several things - that are "woke" or "bad" or "terrible." They all work with insurance companies. They all are capitalists.

The ones hooked up to universities typically have research facilities, which means they work with the government, donors and companies for research grants, investments and donations. Returns are expected. Tests and trials are required.

So when you're in need of serious healthcare, more than a box-doc or perfect physician like the one you want or seek can provide you, where are you going to go?

I'm not trying to be an ass right now. I'm legit curious. You clearly despise UAB, and many other places are like it. If you or someone in your family needed some kind of serious, immediate medical care that UAB could provide - and no one else arould could - would you stick with your principles and (possibly) suffer while trying to find something else, or would you go there?
