I always enjoy seeing the projects y'all work on and thought y'all probably do too.

A wise old saying I've heard is "Build the well before you need the water." To help me build the well, I've cleared about 10 acres of 20 year old wild growth. We started burning today. I built an air curtain to help with burning fast and burning friendly. I want the job done safely, quickly, and with as little agitation to my neighbors as possible. We have the permit needed for this burn and we follow all the rules.

This contraption is 4 sticks of 4" square tubing made into a 40' wide air curtain. It has 3 legs about 13' each where I connect walk behind leaf blowers. We cut a 1" slit in the 40' curtain to fan the flames and force as much air in as possible with the blowers.

This thing helped burn an amazing amount of wood today. For the most part, we controlled the smoke.

We dug a 60' trench about 10' deep and 20' wide. It holds a massive amount of brush, logs, and stumps. We dug it on a slope down to bedrock. I put in a large culvert that was found on the property and is flattened somewhat on the low end that is in the burn pit. This allows rain and critters to escape.

That 20k lb excavator that was stuck a week ago feed the pit all day today. We have a much larger excavator on site pushing down more trees and breaking up piles for burning. There is also a JD 850 dozer that is a big piece of machinery pushing brush and stumps to us at the pit.

You can see the big Ex and Dozer in one of the pits. The brush pile is well over cab high a lot of the day.

We may have cut a 4 to 6 week job in half with this setup. I will say that a good wind blowing most of the day really helped keep thus fire very hot. We will see what tomorrow hold in the morning.

When we built our camp, we had a mountain of trees and stumps from the three acres that was cleared. Six months later, man came back with an excavator, dug a trench and filled it like you did but the trick was a big Votex PTO driven blower with about a hundred feet of twelve inch flexible pipe. All the big stumps were put the the middle of the trench, everything a foot in diameter and less was put in front of the blower to keep the big stuff hot. Blower and ex ran 36 hours strait until pile was gone and not much in the trench. Man said it would have been a five day burn without the blower.

We have 3 blowers running. We have burned for 2 full days. My Excavator operator told me today that our burn pit is now filled with ash and we will have to dig it out in the am.

Not a bad view for a bunch of retired Vets to enjoy with morning coffee. Our project is where my wife and I will live and operate a retirement community made up of townhouses that do not share a common wall with neighbors. Every unit has a breezeway separating them and a shared covered front porch.

We will be home to many of my Dad's generation. Viet Nam Vets will be appreciated and welcome here. So will there spouses and critters. Many of them will benefit from their wartime service benefits.

Hope y'all enjoy the pics and updates. Some have asked that I share them. >Moss
