Each SOA does their unit assignment separately from what I understand. One SOA may send theirs out one day while the others may be a week or so after.

10-4 got me worried I screwed something up. I'm going to have to scout my unit online as there ain't a chance I can get to Stimpson prior to my dates, that's assuming they have scout days for turkey hunts.

We had a mandatory meeting @ noon the day before our hunt and you were allowed to scout the rest of that day.

Yeah they don't do scout days for turkey like they do deer in my experience. You just have the meeting the day before and the opportunity to scout after.

Well crap, that may open up another date on the Stimpson soon. I'm not sure I can go for four days. I'll have to make sure soon. I help coach HS baseball and we have an area game in North Alabama on Thursday afternoon and I was planning on driving down late Thursday or leaving around 1:30-2am on Friday morning and winging it. Did I just miss the mandatory meeting portion stated somewhere in the posting for the hunts. It thought it just says you can enter 1.5hrs prior to daylight on the days of the hunt in my recollections. Hope I can work something out. Was looking forward to a few days on different ground by myself, maybe it'll work out.

It is not a mandatory meeting, You can show up Friday and check in and ask any questions you want.

Thanks, Squadron. That eases my mind.

I got an email last week stating the areas will be emailed soon. Looking forward to it.

Once you get your unit assignments, contact the biologist over that property and tell him your issue. Our meeting last yr lasted about 15min, basic safety and rules.

I'm after, would love any info. New to turkey hunting. Going with a buddy who sort of knows what he's doing but help would still be great. I'll be there the 21st

Better take some repellent for the black flies if you’re going to Stimpson late in the season. Hunted Stimpson SOA 2 years ago and they were terrible.

I haven’t found a repellent that actually works for them. Last time we hunted Portland landing and had to deal with them I wore one of those green mesh whole head bug nets the whole time to keep them out of my face

I got some repellent from a local hardware store while down there but they were still bad. Whole head net would be the way to go. They made me not care about a turkey I know that, plus the zero turkey sign on my sections.
