Anyone know of any decent spots within driving distance of orange beach?
We go down to the coast for New Years (this is the 4th year) and nothing seems active in the surf except a few catfish (not sailfin)
We walked around Lake Shelby and hit a few spots last year but only caught a few small bass.
Caught a few small spade fish and saw a good Sheepshead caught in a day and half at the pier.
Hoping the Aldeer braintrust has a few more ideas, maybe a public launch/fishing spot on fish river.
Just a shot in the dark to cut down on wasting time driving to unsuitable areas I find on maps.
Thanks!

West pass
I think fort Morgan pier is open now
ICW on canal road
The "weir" at lake Shelby (forget the name of the road)

Plenty of places to fish down there but you'll starve to death due to no restaurants.

Perdido Pass and the jetties can be really good for sheepshead, reds, and drum this time of year. I don't know what you mean about not catching fish in the surf though, you must be doing it wrong. This is the best time of the year to load up on big whiting and black drum with the occasional red mixed in.

If you want consistent action, I’d just fish a bottom rig with peeled shrimp and a small circle hook on the beach. You can fill the cooler with whiting.
