Round ‘bout there

Friend of mine last week asked me about the state doing away with CC permits after January 1.

He moved from another state. His questions were pretty good, imo:

If Alabama and some other states don't require residents to have a CC permit, but some states require a permit for reciprocity, how will that work? If you don't have a permit because Alabama says you don't need one but are in another state that requires one, will you get in trouble? Will they say "Ah, Bama doesn't have CC permits so you're good" and let you go?

I told him I didn't know, and that I figure if you still wanted to get one for travel that you could do so.

You still have to get the permit to be legal in other states.

I was told you still have to get a CC permit for that situation. I think has to do residency

Don’t know the truth though

Folks that don't have permit definitely need to have a copy of the rule change for if/when they were to get pulled over...

buy the permit in AL and know the reciprocity and there will be no questions

I will continue to buy my permit regardless. As cheap as they are that illiminates issues.

The reciprocity issue is why I heard a lot of people will still buy permits in Alabama even though they may not be required.

I've always had a permit but I will carry in any state and face whatever consequences that may occur if caught...I'd rather have my pistol taken from me than to leave it at home where it's of no use...

The permits are not going away. The requirement to have a permit to carry concealed is eliminated from the criminal statute. Hope that makes sense. If you choose not to get a permit, then there is no reciprocity from other states. Many states have done the same, so worrh checking into before traveling.

You do know when your pulled over after Jan 1 you’re supposed to tell the officer you have a firearm in the vehicle
What our state has done with this section is violate our civil rights under the first amendment fifth amendment and it will be challenged in court
