Has anyone ever:
1) Not had a deer DRT with a neck shot
2) Had a deer flop around on the ground after a neck shot
3) Lost a deer when you know you made a good shot on the neck

Was talking to a guy and he told me every time he shoots one in the neck it flops around on the ground and he has to put another bullet in it. I have never had that happen. Every deer that I have shot in the neck just dropped and was dead before I could get to it.

Yes to all 3 I got a picture of a deer I tracked a couple years ago that was neck shot that lived showed back up on a food plot as was killed 1 week later by the same guy in the same stand. Deer had a hole size of my fist in the neck.
Tracked one this year that was a bow shot in the neck for almost 400 yards before we found it.imo there is better options than neck shots

Yes. I shot one several years ago and was about to grab its back leg to start dragging. It kicked and got to Its feet and left. I never found it. With that being said, I’ve killed several with a shot where the neck joins the body. If I ever shoot one and it drops, I watch it for a few minutes. If it moves, it gets another round.

Yes, on 3 occasions. Once with a 30-30, once with a 7 mag, and once with a .308. All three flopped around then eventually got up and ran off. Never found them.

I hit a bit low one time and it ran 100yards

I’ve shot 2 in the neck and let them lay until dark and had to cut their throats when I got to them.

Shot a doe in the neck Friday first time I’ve ever shot one there, I didn’t want to take a chance of her running as it would’ve been a heck of a drag if she’d went more than 50 yards, she was DRT never moved an inch

My dad shot almost all his deer in the neck (Most all running or moving pretty good). I think some went 30 yards or maybe a little more. Ive shot a few there and they seem to fall down fast and die.

Usually, only good shooters are consistent neck shooters. So, they hit where they are aiming and deer die. Poor shooters will wound and cant find deer or have issues no matter what they aim at.

Shot a doe in the neck a little over a week ago a little less than halfway up neck and she kicked more than I would have liked. She did drop on the spot. Massive exit wound also.

In my stand one morning and as it got light I saw white belly. Tuns out the deer was shot in the neck the previous day, ran a couple hundred yards and died. No blood trail obviously. Fella thought he missed because the deer did not drop immediately. Moral of the story, don't assume a neck shot is immediately fatal. You may think you missed but you really just wasted meat.

I’ve killed a bunch with neck shots. If given the chance that’s where I’m gonna shoot. Base of neck where it joins the body. If they’re quartering to you, they’re gonna pile up 99% of the time. Only had to track one that I shot that way. It was pretty dark and he must have been more straight on than quartering. Bullet went in, and exited just below his butthole. Lightly bruised both hindquarters where the bullet passes between them. If not for being able to see where he ran, I would hear have found him.without a dog I saw where he went in the woods and he was lying right inside the tree line.

The 8 I shot a couple weeks ago was initially shot in the neck at 190 yards. He dropped like a rock and I thought he was drt. As my daughter and I were watching him ,we realized his head was still up and he was making a somewhat effort to get back up. I put another round him for good measure; the way he fell, his back was facing us and it was the only shot I had left and ended up catching the front of one of the backstraps. He was done after that. Not sure he would've totally gotten up but didn't wanna wait to find out.

I cut one’s windpipe with a 30-06 once. It went 100 yards or a little more. Small drops of blood. It was fairly easy tracking job because leaves were kicked up and I

When it comes to tracking a wounded deer, there’s just too much margin of error for neck/shoulder shots, I tell people to just shoot them somewhere between front and back legs. nobody wants a gutshot, but you’ll find one gutshot, just got to let ‘em lay. Shoulder/Neck of course can be lethal but about the only deer we loose are shot this way.

Not personally, but a family friend hit a buck in the throat with a slug and lost him over the weekend.

Yes to all three. My first trip to Wyoming, I was walking down a trail and three bucks stood up from a brush pile at about thirty steps. I just raised my rifle and shot the first one I saw. Down he goes and the others took off, clean shot right through the neck. I walk over and he is thrashing around hung up in the brush and then goes still, then I made a rookie mistake. I layed my rifle down and got my camera (no cell phones back then) out to take some pictures. About the time I get over to him, he jumps up and starts running sideways at about three quarter speed. By the time I got to my rifle and raised it, he was gone. I tracked him for about a mile and never found him. Back then I was shooting 130 grain silvertips in my 270. I'm convinced the bullet went straight through with no expansion and it took him a second to get over the concussion of the hit and then he was gone. Learned a lot on that trip.

Not a big fan of neck shots. VERY small margin of error. I’ve killed several taking this shot. It depends on the shooter and their confidence.

Yeah I don't like neck and head shot . I've took them but I never liked it . Just a little wiggle and you mess up

My last 3 deer have all been neck shots and every one of them dropped, I’ve done more neck shots too and never had one run. Im about to go back to a behind the shoulder shot though to keep from wasting the neck though
