Was just driving my truck (04 Titan) down the road and it shut off in the middle of the road. Couldn't accelerate and power steering went out. As I say every time I post about my truck, I don't know much about working on vehicles but this truck has provided me with lots of opportunities to learn...

I turned off the truck and turned the key and it started. back up and I drove home.

Any idea what this could be? Quick Google search shows it could be an O2 sensor, I've had issues with one before but all it did was make the gas overflow when filling up. Never had the truck turn off. I replaced it and it's been fine for over a year.

I had a jeep grand Cherokee do the same thing. Never could figure it out. I know that does nothing for your situation.

CEL lit? If so, post the codes. If you don't have a code reader, need to get the codes read (most auto parts stores will read the codes for you for free).

If the truck dies like you said, you're going to lose power steering (truck has to be running for the PS pump to work). Truck dying like you described could be any number of things

No CEL, would a code reader show anything if there aren't any lights on?

1. I don't see how a 02 sensor can cause you to overfill a gas tank.
2. As for the problem go by a parts store most of them can pull the code no cel does not mean there ain't a code. While there but a battery terminal brush and clean the battery post

It wasn't overfilling, there was something casuing it to sputter back out even if I only had a couple of gallons in the tank. I dont know man, I know one pedal makes it go and the other makes it stop.

FIL had a reader, the only codes other than low tire pressure were C1726, C1727, and B2126, which were Battery Voltage Low (rear right: abnormal voltage, Battery Voltage Low (rear left: abnormal voltage), and Detention switch: abnormal voltage.

I guess off the get the battery tested?

After looking up those codes, they all have to do with tire pressure sensors, except the B2126 which looks like its just a problem with the seat controls......so thats not helpful.

Listen to this man.

Dont share that O2 sensor story. Though I did have one go out on a 99 tahoe and you'd have thought the tranny was going out.

Have them test the alternator also

The O2 sensor didn't cause the slow gas filling. That's caused by your vent valve solenoid, purge valve, and/or purge canister failing or the electrical system controlling them going bad (bad wiring, etc). One of them (or combination of them) is causing the fuel tank to not vent fast enough or not at all. I have an 05 Tahoe that does the same thing

The ECM relay is bad about causing that on the Titan.

An 02 sensor issue will not shut a fuel injected vehicle off. It will cause a CEL, and could potentially make your gas mileage worse. The 02 sensor only works in closed loop mode, IE light throttle applications, once you give it some throttle to goes into open loop mode, and runs preset tiiming and fuel curves.

Online search suggests replacing the IPDM. https://www.titantalk.com/threads/strange-issue-truck-shut-off-while-driving.100930/page-2

I'm getting my projects mixed up. The fuel spilling was something else. I had to switch out the o2 sensor after a code dinged for it.

....if you replace the whole truck piece by piece....youll fix the problem eventually right?

Any issues starting after fueling up? I have an o2 and evap code now on my sierra and I've had to stick a toe in the throttle to start it up the last few fill ups. When it cranks it has similar results. I am guessing evap is causing my issues.
