I’m trying to figure out where the heavens half acre land is.

I’ve heard of some the stories you mention. One of my best friends is a mussel diver and has been since the 80s. He’s kinda in the know on this stuff. The other guy I mentioned has been long gone. He pretended to be a mussel diver and spent his time under water digging.

Heavens Half Acre is now long gone but folks still hunt it. Not much is left there now. Maybe some scattered points on the higher spots but most were removed by Holland. Drive to Leighton from Cherokee using Old Hwy 20. Come to the red light and turn left (north). Go two miles and turn right (East) beside Dr. Ashmore's estate. This is 6th street. Go about 1.5 miles and before you get to Fennel Lane it is on the right. It is the site that has the high ground. There is a huge culvert under the road there to drain the field. Look at the area real close and you will see how it would be the perfect ambush site for taking animals between the wetlands. It is a journey back in time every time we go by there.

I know one of my neighbors that had arrowheads in their flowerbeds around the house like they were pea gravel or lava rock, that’s the honest truth ‼️

Next time you are here, look at the mulch around the pool. It is all pottery found on Town Creek. I bet there is at least a thousand pounds around the flowers. It took a while to do it!

Daddy used to tell me they would pick them up and hit them together to watch the sparks come off the flint. They also used to throw them across the creek and skip them on the surface. He said the ones that were the flattest would skip the best. No telling how many he threw across the creek years ago. I once got a gorget from my granddaddy who farmed. He picked it up and was about to throw it into a fencerow to get it out of the cotton field. He put it in his overalls and said "I saved this for you knowing how much you like this junk."

I have a few arrow heads and other objects my family has found over the years but I never really considered buying any. I always thought if arrow and spear heads are all over then making them is a skill that can be learned by several patient minded people and what is stopping someone from just making fakes?

If they are selling for $1,000 an inch or more then there is incentive for fakes to be made and sold. Since they can make them from thousands of year old rock then how can you tell if it is real or a fake. Even fakes can be buried and dug up and photographed like they were just discovered.

Finding them on your own is a great way to collect but buying them seems risky.

Maybe there are ways to tell if one is newly made??

Only job he ever had was mussel diving. He was a buyer at times.
He told me that the market had crashed. One guy that was buying around here was out and he mentioned eBay driving prices down and fake points.

There is no telling how much he made off artifacts. He will never tell and I’m not asking.

I know beside our farm there’s a site that was surveyed and large stones placed to keep diggers out. It’s in the Natchez Trace. I think skinny knows the archeologist that mapped the site.


I wished I knew more about artifacts. Next time I disk i may take a walk about.

Me,Jbatey and our dad use to hunt some on some private farm fields and got a few cool finds but nothing like above. I’ve always been fascinated though. Jbatey and his wife have a large farm now with several miles of bluff and we’ve been kind of curious of the likelihood of Indians every living amongst it.

Dang, i used to scout several farms all around that farm. It was always sb though and looking for points in no till beans aint easy

I can know pretty quick if they're fake or not if I can hold them in my hand but I'm just an average knapper. I'm sure there's some guru knappers out there that are amazing at replicating expensive "authentic" points so I just don't buy anything.

There are way too many fakes in the collecting trade these days. That is why I quit buying, sold or traded the stuff that I had that I didn't personally find. Some stuff it is easy to tell it is fake but other stuff is really well made and artificially aged that it is hard to tell. I had a friend right around the corner from me that restored artifacts for a living and is the best in the business. He helped me out a lot but he moved his family to the Cullman area and I didn't have enough confidence in my own abilities to spend money on something that I wasn't sure was authentic. Plus that is when my family was starting to come along so there was no spare money to lose so I quit buying artifacts. Not to mention that I didn't want any part of anything illegal and it is likely some of the best stuff either came from places not allowed to look or they were burial associated.

In the end, I have way more pride in my collection, and I have some nice stuff that I found, than if I had bought it from a dealer.

I don't have a map, but have info on the specific tribe that lived on our property . Pretty good story, I'll show it to ya sometime. Some maps I've seen we were right on the border of Cherokee and Creek .
