Since 86 I’ve killed a deer with my bow, some years just 1 but as high as 9 in 2005 when I was still bloodthirsty and had a thick target rich environment to hunt. I might start tomorrow afternoon but I’m probably next weekend depending on the weather. I started with a bear flare with a glove with a thunderhead 125 and have gone through a Jennings for a couple of years to several Matthews. Gone from the thunderheads to the muzzy craze into the rage but tonight I went back to the old faithful slick trick that when I mail ordered my first set I thought that little ?ussy thing won’t kill anything until I saw what they would do. Hope this stroll down memory lane didn’t bore y’all but maybe brought back some memories. From the amacker dt3 that weighted 40 pounds though all the improvements in our sport it’s really amazing. Y’all think of a good ole 57 year old redneck with a drenilin LD trying to keep his streak alive while not being able to see through his peep sight nearly as clear as it used to be.

You’ve got me beat by 10 years. My streak is up to 26 years with a kill during bow season. I didn’t get started bowhunting until 1991. Took 3 seasons before I finally killed one.

I posted quickly and forgot to add that I killed a doe the first morning I ever bow hunted in Lee county in a dog hunting club that kicked all us young people out after the first year because they said we ran off all the deer now hunting lol. I thought it was going to be that easy from then on and missed the next 7 I shot at and lost the 8th on a long tracking job probably due to poor shot placement lol. I started with a box pendulum sight called an illuminatior that was so loud I’m sure it sounded like a shotgun going off. After the Jennings I went to a Hoyt magentec that had a built in overdraw thinking because my draw length was so long I could shorten my arrows, killed some with it but missed a lot more. I’m trying to remember all the county’s I bow killed deer in but Dallas was by far the highest kill county followed by green Pickens Lee limestone autauga and now in Jackson. I’ve had a great life and still hunt with several of the same friends I started with

Wilcox added but only a couple from there. I’ve kept a pretty good log over the years and need to look back and see where all I’ve been. I’ve only killed 1 outside Alabama and it was in Giles county Tennessee hunting with my cousin way back in the day.

Got my first bow kill in 87 on Skyline, Bear Whitetail, with aluminium arrows and razorbak 5s. A 3pt, lol, couldn't have been more happy!

First bow kill was 1989 while at Auburn. Had to teach myself everything until I started hunting with Travis Mullis from Eufaula Alabama. Learned a lot in a short period of time then I really started stacking them. I had a Bear Magnum but upgraded to a Pearson Spoiler that same year. It was the hottest thing going and I think it shot those big XX75 2312 arrows with at Thunderhead 125 at about 240fps. That was smoking back then. Around 1998 I started hunting with Chad Norton from Owens Crossroads and man that guy was pure poison! Showed me life from a loc-on and my world changed for good! All the things about tuning, FOC, expandable broadhead, and properly having everything working perfectly! I owe my fried Chad a bunch! Went in my first trip to Illinois with Chad in 2003 and killed my biggest buck at that time. I even fulfilled my dream of going Elk hunting when Chad took me to Wyoming a few years ago. We both killed big bulls.
Started shooting just about everyday in 1998 and tried to be able to shoot with guys like Warren Strickland. That much focus and effort never leaves you. Now. I shoot about 2 weeks before the season. After about 2 sessions. I am back in the grove again. Man bow hunting sure has changed! Industry has given us tools that I would have never thought of when I got my first compound in 1982. Guess what that was. Yep. A Bear whitetail Hunter. If you can believe it, I still have that bow in the attic. I still love the sound that arrow makes when it hits the boiler room!

Hunting brings out the worst in people.

In 1985 I was 16 y.o. and bought my first bow, a Bear Whitetail, ungraded to a Bear Whitetail II in 1987 bought it from Pat Patton in Jasper (Pat’s Archery) within 3 months I upgraded to a Hoyt Spectra 5000 and got serious about 3D. Back then the targets were foam animals, flat of the back and very little detail on the front, the kill zone was a big oval about 10” tall by 15” long and the scoring was 5, 3, and 0. I went through lots of bows always Easton XX75 arrows until 1998 when Gold Tip carbons became available. Shot many tournaments with Pat, Judy, Paul and Rodney.
I killed my first deer with a bow (Hoyt Spectra 5000 and Razorbak 5) in the fall of 1987, killed one on opening day of bow season from 1987 to 2003. I’ve killed them in Sumpter, Greene, Marengo, Wilcox, Pickens, Lamar, Fayette and Marion. I’ve killed them with Razorbak 5, Thunderhead 125, Simmons Land Sharks, Slicktrick, Wasp Jakhammer, Grim Reaper, Scorpion and Magnus broadheads.

Got 4 really nice compounds in the house now, 2 Prime’s and 2 elite’s could pick any one of them up and kill a deer out to 35-40 yards with them today HOWEVER they have been retired due to me now shooting a longbow. Got my first longbow this year and my first longbow kill on opening day. I’m hooked on trad archery now, it has out the fun back into bow hunting. I guess my archery addiction, having gone untreated all these years, continues as now I own 2 longbows and have my 2nd custom longbow on order.

Great stories guys.

I too have long streak going but would rather hear the stories of others.

Keep ‘em coming, long or short.

I killed a doe with a Bear Whitetail 2 the first time I ever went bow hunting. Stood up with my release on my lap, dropped it to the ground. I ended up leaning out around the tree and shooting it with 3 fingers. Perfect shot at 30 yards. Missed the next 3 I shot at with the release 😂 go figure.

I killed my 1st deer with a bow in 1985 when I was 16. Went two years without killing another one. Shot and missed a bunch though. Killed my second one in 1989 and have not missed a year since without killing at least one with a bow. One year I killed 14 and the next year I killed 17. Out of those 31 deer 20 of them were bucks. I was way madder at them back then. I killed two big does with one shot one time and went back the next day and sat in the same stand and killed a 200# 7 pt.

Killed my first a 8 point with a McPherson shooting 125 muzzy on Corps land Sumter county. Killed a few more with same set up all goats. Use a crossbow now but it’s been at least 5 years since I bow hunted.

Clarence killed a bunch of deer mostly on public land I remember correctly. I don’t know if he’s living, he would have to be getting way up there because he sold out in the late 80s and was probably 25 years older than me and I just turned 57. Anyone know?
