Pretty neat

That post is Osage orange, it'll be there another 100 yrs or so, maybe longer. It doesn't rot, it just gets harder. Just for fun, drive a nail into it

I walked a good bit of it trying to find a smaller post that had broken at the base - they were all still standing and pretty solid.

Not as old as might think. Its about 40-50yrs at best. The barbed wire dates to around 1965-1975. Osage posts like that one only have a 40 yr life span, and Oaks like that one grow a lot faster than you might think they would. Yes, I figure this stuff out for a living.

U may be right but barb wire was invented round 1870s
We got some on the farm from 70s and it looks better than that

According to the adjoining landowner, it’s older than him - he looks a little north of 50… grin

I've got Osage orange posts on my place that are a minimum of 75 yrs old and solid as a rock, some even in low wet spots

I have seen line trees exactly like that with the wire right in the middle.
