Getting it sawed is $1.25 a board ft is this reasonable? Would this mean that 1 board, 8 ft long would be 10 dollars each just to cut it?....
Did you know that Beer Nutz are over a Dollar...and Deer Nutz are under a Buck...

Cost should be somewhere in vicinity of .30 to .50 per bf to saw with you bringing log to mill.
Edit- trees that come from around a home place have high chance of nails or other items that will damage a mill. If this is where your log is from, then I see why price was inflated.

Good point about yard trees having metal . Mills up here will kick them out and not saw them.

I've had one walnut milled, but have another small one to cut at a friend's house. Its only about 10-12" diameter, so I'm thinking of trying to cut it with a reg. band saw. Do you think a metal detector could be used to check for nails, etc...?

Walnut is dense and your hand held detector may not be strong enough to go all the way through. Saw mills have big ones that the whole log goes through.
