My daughter has an advanced degree where she actually works with the doctors on what their patients should eat. She believes that eating refined sugar and excessive alcohol are two of the worst things you can do for your body. The only sweetener we use is raw honey and we limit our alcohol and we exercise daily. I’m 65 and still do almost everything I did at 20. I hope it lasts!

54 here
Broke down, cut up, wore out but not a quitter
I realize I have limitations and live with pain every day but to lay down and quit is not who I am
Taking supplements is part of my daily routine and they keep prescription drugs out of my life and help me to be more active than I would be otherwise
I can’t jump or jog or lift weights or do some extreme workout routine but I do the best with what I have and it works for me

When I need expert advice I tend to talk to myself
The older I get the better I used to be

I always stayed in shape while I was in the Army Reserve, but the pounds crept up on me over the years after I retired. I had lost 20 pounds and was running again before I fell in November 2019. I lost more weight after the accident during recovery/rehab. My first day in rehab I could not walk 25 feet, I will be running my first 5K Saturday. My spine surgeon is great, she told me if I don't keep my weight off, stay in the gym and maintain a really strong core that I would be a bent over, crippled up old man really quick. I'm 59, 6'2" and weigh 155 pounds and stronger than I've ever been. I hit the gym 2-3 times a week alternating cardio between the stair climber and treadmill, then weights.

I switched to a (mostly) whole food plant based diet last year. After a month of no meat, dairy and eggs I could tell a huge difference in the inflammation in my back, I have not had to take any anti-inflammatory drugs. Like mentioned above, sugar is absolutely, positively and proven to be very, very, very bad for us. After getting off of it I was amazed at how sweet fruit really is. I know that my diet choice is not very popular here, and honestly it has been very hard. Once I took my blinders off and started trying to understand why/how there are such a wide difference in "scientific" findings regarding nutrition and diet, it was a easy choice.

I'm the same way, but a very small dose of melatonin has helped me. Any larger dose and I feel groggy the next morning and I don't like feeling that way.

Well... You get out and do a lot of manual labor everyday and I'm sure that helps. Some days with me it a lot of walking and looking at plants, other days it's a lot of computer work, management and stress, and other days it's a lot of manual labor doing things around the cabin. You can guess which nights I get the best sleep.

I'll add.
I am 50 and in decent shape. I am still in the gym lifting 4-5 times a week and on the elliptical 5-6 times a week. Most of the time i don't lift extreme weight unless my workout partner for the last 10 years is there. Now is more of go as heavy as i can to be able to do 12-14 reps in each set. I do stretch every day. I will say for me there is no way i could give up the weights and just do cardio. I would never be able to control my weight. See i like beer, and its the "anti workout" beverage. I will say i cannot run anymore due to the fact i need knee replacement in my left knee, too much impact. So Dr told me that swimming and elliptical were my only choices.

I will say the older we get the harder it is to lose any weight at all. Its like we have to give up everything we love to drop a few pounds. But i will because i want to throw BP one day to my grandkids.

I do take meloxicam and it really helps me. Other than that nothing. I may try the small dose Creatine thing and increase my water intake.

I’ve been a Walker for 20 years. Seems to keep in in pretty good condition but I also lift light weights two minutes a day, not for bulk or gain but to stay in shape. In the past year I’ve started doing stomach crunches and that has really strengthened my core and eliminated my lower back pain. Q10 has helped with energy!

I helped my daughter and SIL move yesterday . A lot of heavy , bulky stuff , much of it up stairs . I'm not in shape and in no way should be giving advice on the subject.

I was in great shape 15 months ago. I was playing pickleball 3-4 times a week for a couple hours each time. Five surgeries later, I'm in terrible shape. This past year took a lot out of me physically and mentally. Staying in shape and controlling my diet, is purely mental for me. Probably is for most people. I'm to the point now that I want to get back at it and I'm physically at a point where I about can start working on the fit part. I felt better 15 months ago than I had in 10-15 years. I'm finally craving that again.

And Straycat is correct. Sugar in the diet, regardless of the source, is a huge contributor to most aches and pains for many people. If you hurt and eat sugar or processed foods, eat nothing but meat and green vegetables for 2 weeks and tell me you don't feel much better.

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14

I am going to have to bump this thread...

I have been using the creatine in the mornings along with my workout and it has made considerable difference. I also added some BCCA's too.

I workout about 5 days a week doing a full body workout 5x per week. Yeah that's right 5x per week. I know it goes against all the "Bro Science" out there for the past 20 years, but there has been new research on the subject.

Anyway... After I wake up, have my coffee, read the news and Aldeer, I mix up a cocktail of ice, water, BCAA's and the Creatine and sip on it throughout my workout and so far it's working really good. I've been recovering pretty good too. I fell pretty damn good for a 62 year old man.

Thanks MBrock for the suggestion. It's working as promised.

I like Optimum Nutrition stuff.

Plain Creatine.

Fruit Punch BCCA is the only flavor I can manage to get down. Taste like Hawaiian Punch when you were a kid. The rest of the flavors make me want to gag. I might try the orange. I haven't tried it yet.

I need to focus on drinking more water with the creatine.
