With tractors so high and equipment in general right now, I’ve been looking at something like this to mow green fields/etc. Any opinions on this heavy duty one or whats a better one? I like the Kawasaki motors and I’m looking at rough cut mowers. https://ads.midwayusa.com/product/1019047592

https://www.mowersdirect.com/Swishe...ydV6QQweGPlZlyG_2d5ckF-mfVhoCN3cQAvD_BwEI have used one like this, but it didn't have a pull bar that would allow you to offset it. The 2 main issues I had with it was trying to keep the wheels on it, and with a solid pull bar, it was easy to tweek it if you weren't paying attention. It wasn't mine, so I didn't mess with it as far as correcting the wheel issue. I liked it because I could tow it much faster than my tractor goes. It cut good, although I never tried to cut anything like a May cereal crop from the prior fall. A flail needs to be set low to cut well. If you have any rocks, it is not the best option. I think the cut quality is superior to a bush hog, and probably would rival a finish mower on a flat level field. Get hammer blades if you get a flail. Y blades just won't handle brush well, and the extra weight is helpful in thick stuff. I have a flail and a bush hog and my preference is the flail. It's more compact and it just does a much better job of mulching. I use the bush hog when I cut rougher stuff since its old and beat up, the flail is only about 18 months old. I just have to watch for rocks when I use the flail.

Globe, those work and cut well. I’ve used a Swisher 44” Roughcut for many years. It gets cumbersome turning around in tight spots mowing trails, but not an issue in open fields. It is basically a mini bushhog, same dual swinging blade setup on a stump jumper hub. The 12.5hp motor on mine does much better than I ever though it would. Keep an extra belt.
experience is a freakin' awesome teacher....

Thank y’all! What’s the opinion on a two wheel set up vs the 4 wheel? They make both obviously.

I recommend the rough cut 44” also. It has the bush hog style blades. The one with the heavy duty mower blades didn’t do as good for me. Same experience here with non-swinging blades. Won't cut field grass. Works ok on briars and small scrub as in maintaining an understory area after a grown up bush hog has done the hard work.
