I'm going to be down there next week and wondering if anyone has any surf fishing reports since we've gotten this cooler weather. I'm probably just going to rig up fresh dead shrimp and hope to get into some bluefish, but wondering if it might be cool enough to try rigging up for some pompano also?

Whiting should be there as well. They love dead peeled shrimp.

Thanks for the info, I’ll definitely get a few pomp rigs ready before I go and may make a concerted effort to Target sone whiting also. I’ve caught a few, but never targeted them, what’s the ideal setup? A smaller (size 2-4) hook and small pieces of shrimp thrown closer to shore?

They're in the Drum Family and just as good as a 18" Redfish.

Caught whiting today but they were all small. Caught a pompano that was also small. This daggum grass is obnoxious

Have the jellyfish thinned out any? They were thick a few weeks ago.

I'm in Ft Morgan, but they're pretty bad here. I tried flounder gigging last night for the first time and spent the whole time dodging them haha. I guess I might try fishing the bay side tomorrow, I've never done it but fishing the gulf side sucked today.

Grass wasn’t too bad here yesterday. Caught a bunch of small pomp and jack crevalle, and my personal best pompano at 16” the water is super flat today, hoping for a little more surf to kick up this afternoon

Try some pink Fish Gum and ghost shrimp for pompano and whiting. Cut Ladyfish for reds. Bubble rigs with small shiny spoons for bluefish. And from everything I hear you're going to have to hunt for a spot without grass.

Caught a ton of whiting yesterday and the day before and they were delicious. Pretty much all I’ve been able to catch though. A few tiny pomps here and there, one jack crevalle, and that’s it. It was dead with that flat water this morning

Any pompano is good eating. Jacks are fun to fight and catch but thats about it.

Me on the left with some 30lb Jacks caught off 3 mile bridge in Pensacola 40 years ago. Pic then threw em back. Good fight but never ate em.
