I notice I have gotten what I believe to be mites in my mounts. I was wondering if there was anyone out there that may know what I can do to treat and kill them.

The spray I'm referring to is in a black aresol can. Don't soak it, but spray it down good.

Should you spray them down once a year or every so often as a preventative?

It wouldn't hurt them. Keeping them clean from dust is the key

Bifen is a good poison for mites. I have no idea about spraying it on a tanned pelt. But you would probably be ok if you sprayed lightly, like shootnmiss said

I'd put it in a closet , chest or something you could shut quickly . Put the head in there , throw a couple of bug bombs in there and slam it shut.

I don’t have them in mine and I do wipe it down every so often but what’s the taxidermist have to do with it?

What's a Taxidermist have to do with it? You obviously know nothing about taxidermy.

Nope never claim to. That’s why I was asking such a well educated person like yourself.

It is a mount I let a guy in Kentucky do. The others were done in Alabama buy a legit taxidermist and they are okay. The one that the other guy did looked like crap and it shows now. I took it out of the house and I’m going to get the horns off of it. I checked over all the others and they seem to be okay. Headed to Walmart to get some lice spray now to put on the others.
