Need some insight on my arrow build

Been seeing lots about increasing arrow FOC and I am shooting Gold Tip Hunter XT 340 29" with just standard inserts and 100gr broadhead from a 27.5" 70lb Vertix. I am thinking i would like to get a little more weight up front but don't really want to buy all new arrows. Have any of you tried the thread-in adapters? (Yes, I know a 125gr broadhead will help)

I am killing deer with this set up but I don't seem to be getting the penetration I'd like.

A 340 spined arrow at 29” and 70# is already under spined. Adding more weight up front would make it worse.

I shoot black eagle carnivores 300 spine at 28.5 inches. Shooting a 150 grain insert and 125 grain head out of a 62 pound bow and really like them. They come in at around 550 grains and I think 19-20% FOC. We just built my brother a set of Easton sonic 6.0 in 300 spine cut to 29.5 with a 75 grain insert and 125 grain head and they seem to be solid shafts but haven’t got any real test with them yet

What would you suggest? 300 Spine with inserts?

I’m shooting 29” 300 spine arrows at 70lbs, with standard inserts and 125g broadheads. If you do threaded weights and a heavier broadhead it may put you at a 250 spine.

You need to be shooting a 300 spine now. Depending how long you cut your arrows. You could possibly add a lil bit of weight with a 300 spine maybe 25-50;gr.if you wanna go crazy over foc which seems to be what all the cool guys are doing your gone need to look at a 250.
My setup for an example is 28.5/70 I cut my arrows 28.5 to get the blades in from of my hand. With a insert and 30 grains behind it which gives me a foc of 15.5 % and a total weight of about 465. This let'se retain enough speed and momentum I can't shoot about any broadhead I want.

i agree with shaw and allen. make sure your bow is well tuned with a straight flying arrow. accuracy is the key. shot placement is what counts. dont get too caught up with the heavy arrow craze.ive killed 16 elk in my lifetime.i use a 380 grn arrow shot one bull at 60 yds and went right thru him like hot butter with a 380 grn arrow right behind shoulder. again accuracy is what kills. work on the indian and make your shots count

You can bare shaft through paper and get instant feedback on what you arrrow is doing. Change point weight and watch what happens.

Don't fall for the "Ranch Fairy" crap. And it is just that. The whole heavy arrow and high foc is just a bandaid for tuning problems. I want to share some numbers with you that may help you make a better decision on your arrow of choice.
This should be close to your setup.

And this is 100gr heavier.

This is a comparison of ke and momentum. Notice the loss of ke and only a small gain in momentum.
[Linked Image]
[Linked Image]
And this will show the difference in arrow drop because of the loss of speed with the heavy arrow. That's a 15 inch difference at 50 yards.

Now I haven't done all the testing with arrows but Joel Maxfield has and his findings have the Ranch Fairy and his followers scrambling trying to disprove what the testing proves. If you want to learn more then check Joel out on Facebook.

If you want an arrow that will blow through most anything you'll be hunting, go with a gold tip pierce with a trocar tipped fixed blade broadhead.

You're right about accuracy but, there's no argument that a heavier arrow will out penetrate that 380gr.

Don't take this the wrong way but are you absolutely certain that your bow is well tuned. Because I have been shooting 400 grain arrows out of an old Mathews Q2 for years and have never had a problem with penetration on whitetails. Hogs either. Even with expandable broadheads I have consistently gotten pass throughs. Probably only getting about 260 fps and about 54 lbs of KE. But I can promise you that my bow is absolutely tuned. My arrows fly like a dart. From a well tuned modern 70lb pound compound bow using a properly spined arrow you should not be having much trouble. Especially with a fixed head like a Muzzy, Slick Trick, or Magnus Stinger. My weak ass set up will bury a muzzy tipped arrow 4 inches in the dirt after passing through a deer.
