those old Midland or Taylor pasture drills actually work and can still be found relatively cheap around used lots. I still see a few in decent shape come through. Probably $2k on average they use to be around $1200.
They are on 20" spacing you have to go over it twice with small grains but they will plant beans and cowpeas as well I believe. I am pretty sure you can plant a whole lot of stuff with them I have seen them with small seed boxes.
No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

Does your NRCS office not rent them? Ours has a couple different sizes and they cost $100 to rent. No maintenance, no hassle, and you don't have to buy one. They do but they’re darn near impossible to get from September-October

Check out Tar River seed drills. You can get a 72 inch for 3950 and around 4950 for a no till of the same thing.
