Anyone got any leads on a used grain drill in central or north Bama? 4 or 6 row. Preferably something less than 8ft wide. Looking for one in The $5-6k range.

Check out Cole Jernigan on Facebook Marketplace. He is in north Georgia. Not sure how far that is from you. He sells some 3 pt hitch ones for a fair price. Pretty sure they are just some 20 footers cut up and made into 3 or 4 smaller ones and a fresh coat of paint. Some of the ones he has are better than others.

those old Midland or Taylor pasture drills actually work and can still be found relatively cheap around used lots. I still see a few in decent shape come through. Probably $2k on average they use to be around $1200.

They are on 20" spacing you have to go over it twice with small grains but they will plant beans and cowpeas as well I believe. I am pretty sure you can plant a whole lot of stuff with them I have seen them with small seed boxes.

No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

Does your NRCS office not rent them? Ours has a couple different sizes and they cost $100 to rent. No maintenance, no hassle, and you don't have to buy one.

They do but they’re darn near impossible to get from September-October

Check out Tar River seed drills. You can get a 72 inch for 3950 and around 4950 for a no till of the same thing.

I have an older "pasture dream" and its finicky bad. Seed is not really metered and individual drop outs don't always flow at the same rate. Also they seem to do better in dense sod, I have learned not to spray with gly before I plant, if everything is dead the feet will tear off chunks of sod (sometimes building up into a huge ball) making a field rough.

I think it does best when trying to drill wheat into a cow pasture for winter grazing.
