Car vs. Motorcycle Accidents: Fatality Rates
Year after year, statistics reveal that more people are killed in car crashes than they are in motorcycle crashes. However, when it comes to the rate at which people are dying in these crashes, there’s no question about it: the fatality rates are much higher with motorcycles. You can see the latest data from the Insurance Information Institute (III):

Car vs. Motorcycle Fatality Rates
Fatality Rate, 2017 Motorcycles Passenger cars
Per 100,000 registered vehicles 59.34 10.05
Per 100 million vehicle miles traveled 25.67 0.94

The III reports that in 2017, the occupant fatality rate per 100,000 registered vehicles was 59.34 for motorcycles and 10.05 for passenger cars. In other words, the occupant fatality rate per 100,000 registered vehicles was nearly six times higher among motorcycle crashes.

When comparing the car vs. motorcycle fatality rate per 100 million vehicle miles traveled, the statistics become even more shocking. The fatality rate with motorcycles was 25.67, compared to a fatality rate of 0.94 for passenger cars. Bottom line?

These statistics reveal that the occupant fatality rate with motorcycles was 27 times higher than that of cars.
===================================================================================

Insurance stat's from a quick Google search. 27x higher fatality rate on a motorcycle.
I've never had a motorcycle, but I keep hearing this stat on lawyer commercials and it sounded high before I read above.

It’s not about you, it’s about the idiot next to you in a car on their phone.
But hey, it’s your life.

Enjoy it! I’ve never been a motorcycle guy but understand all my buddies who are. I choose to do something much more deadly….. eat like a teenager but not exercise. I promise between riding a motorcycle and being lethargic only one is guaranteed to kill you.

Road dirt bikes all my life. Had a few surgery's but nothing more serious than that. Might get a street bike after my kids are raised but not while they still depend on me. Death is one thing.....Its the crashing, burning, and living that scares me....

I had road rash once. That pretty much cured my desire to ride a motorcycle.

Well since we can't talk you out of not riding on the road, I hope you have a great trip buddy. And I mean that. That would be so much fun to go on a week trip like that in the mountains with some good friends. That sounds awesome! I'm happy for you Irish!👍👍

The problem with riding motorcycles on the street is all the idiots driving cars! No way I would ride on the street with all those idiots running red lights and changing lanes without looking and texting.

Daddy use to say, "An accident looking for a place to happen" and "murdercycles". My last two bikes were harleys. Softail and then a Street Glide. Nice rides, but getting too dangerous to ride anymore. Wife was glad I gave it up.

She sold her Bonneville after she had rotator cuff surgery. She couldn't ride for like two months after the surgery, and then afterwards she decided to give up riding. She had a good run though. She rode her own bike for about 10 years and probably travelled in about 10 different states. Not bad for a middle aged woman.
