Would it be redundant to use oats, wheat, rye, and triticale in a blend? I know they have different strengths and weaknesses as well as attracting power. I am thinking a blend with Crimson clover and winter peas.

Yeah I used to get the black oats from Petcher seeds.

Triticale is a hybrid cross of wheat and rye

I have noticed in test plots that triticale isn't as forgiving of poor soil as rye. I also notice that sometimes they don't use it quite as much as wheat at some points. So I figured if I need 800 or so lbs anyhow, might as well use them all.

Some people like triticale but I’ve had mixed results. Wheat, oats, cereal rye, and white ladino clover mixed together is as effective as anything I’ve tried.

Really anytime you mix anything it’s counterproductive imo. Nowadays I plant everything separate for the most part. Brassicas strip/plot, clover plots (perennial, maintained), and the exception is ill do winter peas cultipack them, and then top sow a cereal. Ill top sow cereals in the brassicas too if they start getting hit early or something.

I’m scratching my head. Variety and different maturity rates and timing is what’s attractive and gained from mixed plots. Having companion plants is a great thing for wildlife and cost effective.

I don't think Bama means to not plant in the same plot. I read it to mean to not plant them at the same time and method. Different size and depth seeds etc. Maybe I read wrong. I plant cereal grains in the same plot as brassica but not in the same mix. I add clover to brassica and cereal grain.

I agree. What I was trying to explain above is essentially all one plot. I just plant individually if that makes sense. So in a 2 acre plot ill have a 1/2 acre of clover 1/2 brassicas and an acre of peas and wheat/oats.

I don't have the luxury of a 2 acre field, so I plant a mix.

I just plant a 3-way mix AND have about 20 deer standing around every time I go hunting in any of the fields..... I must be doing something wrong.

No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

Obviously you need to shoot every deer you see to fix this problem, duh.

You need to watch more Outdoor Channel! laugh

Life is a journey. Make sure and bring plenty of Beer.

My luck has been so bad lately, it could be raining pussies and I'd catch one with a dick broke off in it.
