What's biting off the beach right now? Gonna be down there Thurs-Sunday and I plan on doing some fishing if weather permits. I'll be taking a couple light/medium spinning rods for throwing artificials and a 10' heavy spinning rod for slinging baits out to watch from the beach chair.

I’m gonna try to give it a go this week too on the beach at the condo where we’re staying, but probably only in the evenings after dinner. I’m just taking a cheap heavy catfish rod with a pompano rig on it. Probably get some fish gum or something like that….or maybe some frozen shrimp or something.

Very slow for whiting and pompano. Been lots of lady fish (skipjack) in the morning, so bring any old spoons or top waters you have. Dog days came early this year but the rain and clouds are going to cool things off a little.

I’ll be heading to Fort Morgan tomorrow for the weekend. I was planning on fishing at daylight and then just letting a pompano rig with Fish Bites or Fish Gum soak during the day depending on the crowd. In the past, I have caught ladyfish, spanish mackerel and blue fish during the day just throwing a 1/2 ounce silver spoon. I was also planning on flounder gigging at night. It looks like there is a lot of rain coming in so I don’t know how much of this will actually be able to get done. If it’s a wash out, the pink snapper better be biting.

I’m taking my bow and some lights. Got a trip booked Friday night with Liquid Trails bowfishing but if the weather allows I’ll be wading Thursday and Saturday nights.

Awesome! I am staying at Gulf Shores Plantation too. We will probably run into each other at some point. I’ll be the guy with the spinning reel turned upside down and reeling it backwards (just kidding).

Blues, jacks, and of course the obligatory Ladyfish early and late throwing artificials. Might luck into a trout or red. I know of a few guys that have been catching some pompano on fish gum/ Fishbites and fresh dead shrimp. Key is to find the right rip to set up in. Might want to look up Tony Faggioni (the fish gum guy) Panhandle rig; it’s more of a finesse pompano rig. He did pretty good a couple days last week.

Flounder bite has also been picking up in the surf in deeper holes and cuts.

Of course this weather will probably trash the surf for a few days

Back when I lived in Bama, the fam would all load up and stay where you guys are going. I managed to do pretty well in the surf early mornings and mid to late afternoon. Plenty of non-crowded beach out there to really go find the cuts in the sandbar like Avenged is talking about. Find those and you’ll be on fish. Spoons and swim jigs for artificials, Fishbites, dead skrimp, and cut mullet/whiting for bait. If you go the cut bait route, be prepared to hook into something with teeth. Caught a 5ish foot shark using cut mullet on that stretch of beach.

You won't be able to miss us. We've got something like 7 couples going and most of us have kids so we'll be dominating a pretty good size chunk of beach out there lol. Just look for the drunk guy that's trying to fish in the middle of all those folks and that'll be me grin

We used to swim baits out at night.

My son has figured out you get a lot more attention (and bikinis) if you catch ‘em in the daytime.

Not “shark fishing” but a live pinfish or other bait caught off the beach can catch…

It’s a total blast and the crowd applauds the release every time. And then momma tells little Johnny he’s not going swimming out there again.

Small rod with light weight, tiny hooks, and frozen shrimp to catch bait. Then circle hooks with live pinfish or butterflied whiting with no drag.
