Yeah. It’s usually out by now. I figured they were still looking at how they were going to dick us next on turkey season.

It’s interesting how the zones are chopped up. Anyone know why zone A is all over the map as opposed to all north?

Well, I can’t speak about the north part of the state, but the reason the very SE corner of the state is in zone A because there rut is in mid December

Looks like zones D & E end the season on Jan 27 this year........ This method of chopping everything up into zones is going to make things more and more complicated if we keep on doing it. Just look at Russell Co now as an example.
Why cant we have one season from Oct 1 to Feb 10 for the whole state??.....What are we really gaining by chopping it up like this because of rut dates?? Are these slight differences in season dates really making any difference in the deer management side of things or is it just complicating things for the hunters??

I suppose that’s one way of looking at the situation……Another one might be to ask what are we gaining from complicating the process in this manner?? Or in other words, if we take the system that chops us all up according to rut dates and compare it to a system that has us all starting and ending on the same date……is there enough of a difference in the end results when it comes to buck management to justify us further complicating things?? We already have a 3 buck limit in place…..Are 10-12 days added to anyone’s season really gonna change things in any kind of significant way........enough to justify what we are doing??

In my opinion, absolutely. We asked for zones forever and the state at least listened. We can discuss the effectiveness of each, but this is one thing they have gotten right. Of course, I hunted a state that had zones for decades, so my opinion of how mismanaged things can be without zones may be skewed.
Ya'll are just overthinking it now

Been hunting what is now zone D bordering Bankhead for 25 years. Seasons and does have completely been mismanaged by the state. Average buck qualty has declined to the a point where I havent seen a decent racked buck since 2016.
State is the worst, think they know what they are doing but don't and too arrogant to listen. Seasons now start too early. Pressures the mature bucks early November before the rut in mid to late November putting them on alert and breaking their patterns. Too warm and too many leaves on the trees to hunt effectively from a distance to avoid disrupting and pushing them nocturnal.
Chances of taking a mature buck were much betters when the gun season started right with the rut in mid to late November. We also surprisingly took some good deer from these same areas during the February time frame. Deer started coming to food sources during during daylight late season. Now that us not an option. Current Zone D season is terrible compared to what it was before.
