So years ago, I was young and lived at home. Someone broke in and stole several guns. Some family heirlooms. Some new ones. Some mine. Some my dad's. Because I was 19 and it was my dad's house he gave the police report. They all were reported as his. He recently passed away. If those guns are recovered, what happens? According to the will, I get what was his. Is there a way to get my name in the stolen gun registry? A way to see if any have been recovered since he passed? Any possible way for those to find their way backto me if recovered?

Wouldn’t hurt to call in to that agency and have them do a supplement report to attach your name and current address to those items. I would explain that situation. Also, you could go ahead and speak with whomever if there was ever any updates to that case.

Don’t give up, I had a rifle stolen and it was recovered 19yrs later. Still in the gun case and the box of ammo with it. Don’t think it was ever fired once it was stolen. Key to recovery is being able to produce serial numbers when stolen.

Years ago my Brother inLaw bought a 22 rifle from someone and his crackhead step son stole it from him. The rifle was recovered and when the numbers were ran they found out the rifle was stolen something like 25 years earlier. The old man was able to get his rifle back. So never give up.

My truck has been broken into 2 times and 2 pistols stolen. I doubt they will ever surface. Had a neighbor that got a call from NYC police. They asked him if he made a police report on such and such gun getting stolen from his house. He confirmed and they told him they had his pistol. It was recovered after it was used in a robbery. I forgot how many years later it was after it was stolen but he got it back. Never give up I guess...........................

A lot of recovered guns, if the owner cannot be found in a reasonable amount of time, the guns get destroyed.

Nice. Had several stolen about 19 years ago that would be nice to get back. Unfortunately the 22 will never be recovered because i didn't have serial numbers. It was the first rifle (10/22 Ruger) my Mother purchased for me 😔

Wonder how they go about that when your house phone is shut off, and i didn't have a cell then. Doubt they'd send a letter, but who knows...

They can run your name through a database such as TLO and get potential phone numbers and addresses.

My father had a Belgium Browning Light 12 and a per 64 model 94 Winchester stolen . Several years later , out of the blue the FBI called him asking about one of them . The agent said one of them had been used in a murder in N.C. and when the case was settled they'd contact him and he could get it back. Guess the case was never settled , he never got it back.

It will make you sick to your stomach seeing these beautiful guns, and some are valuable antiques that are rare, sitting around waiting to be destroyed. They are also used for ballistic testing if confiscated from a convicted felon. Sorry I can’t say where the dead body’s are.

This isn’t wholly related to the original post but I remember years back the MPD hosted a gun buy-back. Bring any any gun, functional or not, and receive a Walmart gift card of $X. I happened to catch the news with a video of the weapons turned in and right in the middle was an old German Luger pistol with the original stock attachment. You know that was someone’s granddaddy’s bring-back from WWII. Turned in for $100 and destined for the scrap pile.

I'd like to know the actual number of stolen guns that are recovered. I'd not bet on it being a big number.

The best is when they ask if you have the serial number and you tell them it doesn’t have one. Had an early 60s shotgun stolen and when he asked for the serial number and I told him that, he looked at me strange and said so the serial number has been removed or altered? Had to explain to him that they weren’t required prior to 1968. Still not sure he believed me about that.

Yep...I'm still lookig for a Stevens 311 410 with my grandfathers DL number on the receiver since it had no serial number.
Doubt I'll ever see it again though.
I did find one just like it on gunbroker listed by a pawnshop in Gadsden. I made a special trip to put my hands on it.
Also have a P220 Sig .45ACP in the system. I'd like to have it back too

We had 13 guns stolen in FL in 1998. Got one back in 2001. A Winchester 9422 Magnum. They found it in a migrant workers camp in Pennsylvania. Looked new when it left and like it had been drug down the road when I got it back. Still shoots good though.

While we're on the subject, if anyone has or sees a Winchester Model 12 16 gauge with a solid rib and the serial # 757546, I'd sure buy it back. The rest of them have long since been replaced. That one can't be replaced, even though I've tried.

I bet Gundoc could make it look new. I loved that lever he posted here a few days ago. Work of art.

Yep Gundoc, mine was a 1960s 311D 16ga. I’d love to have it back, but I replaced it with a 1951 311A 16ga, and a 1960 311A 16. The first gun had sentimental value, but I’d probably have traded it for the two I own now. Sometimes things happen for a reason.
