No sprinklers no pool. We sold our house and moved to my parents property to help take care of them. I did not want to build a permanent structure so I had a sweet doublewide put here. If I had a leak or a continuous water flow, would'nt the meter be reflecting that flow?

That's a lot of water , I think much more than a couple of toilets leaking at the flapper. A leak putting out that much should show up. Sounds like a problem with the fancy meter.

My guess is that the meter wasn’t programmed correctly. If you had a slightly higher bill after the meter was installed it could have been due to the new meter being more accurate. Old meters relied on gears to turn a dial to measure flow. Digital now have a small turbine that measures even the smallest amount of flow.

What brand meter is it? If it is a radio read meter it will have the capability to be data logged. If so have them run this report. This will show when the water supposedly went through the meter.

Most likely they have the wrong multiplier in the billing software for your account. You said they just installed the meters recently? Usually lots of bugs to work out when the system gets installed.

True. I had a 20x40 in ground pool at my old house with an 8 ft. deep end. I want to say it held 32000 or 36000. My bill last month said 5000 gallons used. That makes sense with 2 extra kids home from college. This bill read 47000. I'm hoping just an extra zero got thrown in their accidentally. I am going to do the food coloring thing today.

Not sure what brand. It looks sophisticated. It is very new and like I mentioned before the City of Cullman just took over billing for county residents. I don't know why, but they did and it has been my experience that the county is easier to deal with than the city. I will take a another pic of the meter and try to post it. Never been able to post pics on here before.

I got a call from the water dept saying my bill was at 200 & to check for leaks. There was no visible leaks but my freeze proof hydrant at my barn was not sealing correctly at the bottom & was continuously draining.

If the meter is not running, note the numbers, then fill a 5 gal bucket. See if it registers 5 gals. My new house in Oak Point, Tx had a high water bill. For every 5 gals used, it registered 8. Secondly, could be you were underpaying your water bill (ie meter reader was too lazy to actually check) and now this is a catchup charge.

What I don’t understand with ours is the monthly fluctuations in it. We are routine people who do the same amount monthly without change. Ours years ago when we were under Blountsville water authority was reasonable. Then they combined all the smaller ones into the Blount county water authority and it has went down hill from there. Simply turned it into a government mess with more management drawing checks

A friend had that happen, although not a drastic. The water department had installed a commercial meter.

Call and ask them to do a data log on your meter , if it’s a radio read new meter it can show day by day usage . Gradual getting worse and worse is a leak on your side. (Toilet , leak that isn’t comming to the top of the ground )
