If you want to stay off medication, in my opinion, you need to pay attention to total carb count. Foods with low GI are better, certainly, but you still need to count the carbs, no matter how much fiber they have. Also, I’ve found weight lifting to be a tremendous help in lowering blood sugar. Please don’t take this as medical advice. I’m not a dr or dietician, just a type II that’s been able to control my sugar with diet and exercise.

10 POINT I've been dealing with type 2 for 20 years, first thing find you a Endocrinologist, Second thing is it's a life style change it's no longer a diet

I believe that and supposedly the Apple Watch will have that function. If not I’ll probably bite the bullet. The last several month endocrinologist changed my meds and my morning fasting blood sugar went up. Was running 140-160 depending. Now 200 give or take. I was eating sweets still with tryjardy but have cut all that out with trulicity and synjardy combo that was bumped up to next dosage. Wondering what the heck.

Was gonna talk to my GP but he’s out on medical leave right now.

Keep all your eye appointments. I don’t treat diabetes but I see the serious effects it has on the eyes. Diabetes is the leading cause of new cases of blindness in the US. Diabetic retinopathy is the second most common referral I make with cataract surgery being #1.

Most common treatment is laser to the retina and in some cases, medicine is injected into your eyeball. Yeah. A shot. Into. Your. Eye.

Diabetes ain’t no joke. Google some images of a normal retina and then look at a retina with diabetic retinopathy. If you need any more motivation to get it under control, that should do it.

Good luck man. You got this!

I am in the process of reversing my Type 2. I have done every diet you can name, seen general practitioners, internal med docs, and endocrinologists. I fired the last endo I had last year, when I said I wanted to try to reverse by diet and exercise, and he told me diabetes is a progressive disease and I would end up on insulin eventually. Buy the books by Jason Fung MD and Ken Berry MD. Watch their videos on YouTube. Also Dr. Sten Eckberg. Also videos by a minister on "Beat Diabetes". I have eliminated all sugars and carbohydrates, just meat and eggs and some dairy and a few veggies. Also intermittent fasting. I've done three, four, and five day fasts. Late 2021 my A1C was over 10. A month ago it was 6.1 and I am sure it's lower now. I have lost 30 pounds since starting this late January of 2022. I am off of everything but 1000 mg of Metformin. I'm sure I will be off that with a little more effort. I regularly check my blood sugar. I am a sugar addict and I still crave donuts and other crap. But fasting, after the first day, is not that hard. Throw away all sugar, syrup, and rice/pasta/potatoes. I eat a little fruit (berries), nuts (no peanuts!). Meat (chicken, fish, seafood) eggs, use butter, olive oil, coconut oil, ghee, bacon grease. Avocados. Throw away cannola oil, safflower oil, no seed oils. No beans! No bananas. No oats. No flour. Yeah it sucks to think I can't eat fried chicken and biscuits and cinnamon rolls and banana pudding but I'd rather go without them than I would fingers, or toes, or feet!! I eat about 20 net grams of carbs or less a day. I haven't felt this good in twenty years. Good luck.
the docs I mentioned will caution you about taking certain meds for diabetes and fasting. Metformin won't let your glucose level bottom out, but others will so be careful and talk to your doc when you can! Very low blood sugar can hurt you bad.

Any thought on this
https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-022-00912-y

The latest analysis found that people who had had COVID-19 were about 40% more likely to develop diabetes up to a year later than were veterans in the control groups. That meant that for every 1,000 people studied in each group, roughly 13 more individuals in the COVID-19 group were diagnosed with diabetes. Almost all cases detected were type 2 diabetes, in which the body becomes resistant to or doesn’t produce enough insulin.

Look up Dr Ken Berry On Youtube. He Will walk you thru how to reverse it. I followed his advice and thousands of others and got off meds. My A1C stays around 5.5-5.7 now with no meds. You will have to go low carb Keto to do it though.

My dr told me to come off my meds I was a 5.5 finally. Low carb is a lifestyle not a diet and it isn’t easy. August 14 will be 5 years for me.
