I laid down a couple pallets of centipede last spring. Grass is doing pretty good but I'm trying to improve root structure. Other half of yard is st Augustine that's been there a long time so I'm not worried about that.

I bought some 29-0-3 a few weeks ago that I've applied once.

Should I stick with this or supplement what I have already bought with something else? Iron, more nitrogen?

I’m applying 24-2-11, lightly, to my St. aug lawns.
I don’t put anything on centipede if I can help it but less N is definitely best with that. St. Aug is a heavy feeder but high N will buy you fungus and insect damage.

A soil test is needed to tell you how much P&K is needed. Both those don’t need a lot of nitrogen, but they do need some. Any idea how much you’ve already put on?

If you do the things you need to do when you need to do them then someday you can do the things you want to do when you want to do them.

I have had great luck on both with 15-0-15 with iron.

About a month ago I did the recommended amount according to the bag.

I have a beautiful st augustine lawn. I've been here 31 years and have never fertilized it. As long as I stay on the lookout for chinch bugs, it's all good. I water it if we have a long dry spell

The only thing I put on our centipede is Atrazine in the spring. It knocks down the weeds and the grass does the rest.

soil sample to see if it needs phosphorus , other than that, don’t use anything with P in it. i use a 24-0-5 mid summer and that’s it. 3/4lb of N per 1000sf or 32lbs of N per acre. more fert doesn’t equal better yard when it’s centipede and st aug

Give me bout 15 more minutes, I was dreamin about beavers..........

I've recently been reading up on centipede grass and based on my findings it is very pH dependent/specific. I'm actually trying to rid a zoysia lawn of centipede, but one of the common methods is to raise the pH. Centipede really likes acidic soils in the 5.0-6.0 SU.

Thus far the only thing I've found that will kill it is gly. I am hoping quinclorac I just picked up will handle my patches without harming the zoysia, but thought the pH info may be helpful to you. I used slow release nitrogen 29-0-5 and the centipede really responded well (unintended).

I kicked it’s butt with Image a long time ago. Most everything that kills weeds in Bermuda is pretty rough on centipede.

Scott's Bonus S turf builder. Make sure it's just turf builder and not weed and feed with turf builder.

Interesting... which Image? I usually use sedgehammer rather than image but I never sprayed it on the centipede. So far everything that I've used only stunted it at recommended rates and high application rates burned the zoysia. Sorry to hijack the thread, thanks for info. If this quinclorac doesn't work I'll try image.

It’s possible it was the older version before the lawyers got after it. Usually if something says herbicide for southern lawns but doesn’t specifically indicate for use in centipede and st. Aug it’s hard on them. Usually the county exchange agent or the co-op can provide very good information.

I live a little north of Birmingham and have a centipede lawn. I tried to manage it myself for years but finally just hired my neighbor who has a turf management company. He figured out that I had been putting too much nitrogen on it. He only hits it with nitrogen once a year now and it does well.

Last year I tried cutting it a little higher with hopes that it would be more drought tolerant. Big mistake, next ything I know we've got a spittle bug infestation. They lay their eggs at the base of the plant so it's dang near impossible to kill them. If your centipede starts to turn a little yellow check for them asap
