Which has better inshore, Mobile Bay or Perdido bay for redfish, trout, etc (mostly redfish)

I know Louisiana and Big Bend Florida are way better, but can’t get the wife to move to either of those areas. I’ll just have to hail the boat to fish those areas.

You can live on Perdido bay and be a FL resident (taxes) and easily fish the waters from Pensacola to Mobile.

No idea for trout cause I’ve never fished perdido bay for them. We fish Mobile bay/dauphin island and limit out on trout more times than not. Redfish is going to be way more consistent in the backwaters of perdido and Pensacola. Not a whole lot of spots in Mobile bay you can target redfish specifically and catch them consistently.

The best inshore in the Perdido area is going to be south of Perdido Bay in the waters near and around the pass, Ono, Terry cove, etc. Perdido Bay itself is not really great fishing. But there are plenty of other bayous and flats on the south end and as you start going west. Keep going west and you can fish Wolf Bay, Oyster Bay, Bon Secour area and south Mobile Bay area. Then east you can obviously fish the Big Lagoon area, Pcola pass and then all the inshore waters of Pcola. Living central to all of that is really the best of both worlds.

We may need to trade spots. I have the exact opposite luck. I can catch reds almost everyday but those specks are either there or not…and for me, most likely not until fall. I did find a few yesterday but only one keeper.

For reds I like Terry Cove and for trout I fish the pier lights of Ono late at night.

I can spare a spot or two in exchange for some consistent redfish spots.

I’ll say Mobile bay,it’s a lot bigger with less boat traffic and more reefs to fish,my in laws had a place on Wolf bay for 15 years and we could catch redfish most of the time but trout were tough,we would mostly catch trout on the lights at night, they have a place on bon secour now and the fishing seems to be better around Mobile bay from what I can tell so far

I’d live somewhere down there near mobile bay. You can always run to perfidy or even as far as St Joe’s, IF you want to fish Florida…..but I’d prefer to hop to Mississippi, instead. I’m not as big on fishing that part of FL, just due to crowds and the slot/limit regs. Sure, no state taxes, but I’m not sure it’s worth the hassle and other cost of living. I’ve worn the trout out in that area of FL, but had to go through 100 releases to find 4-5 for the cooler most days. It’s fun, just more restrictive on the table side.
