I am looking at acquiring a 05 and up tacoma 4.0L v6 4x4. I plan to say under $14k, so i will be looking at higher mileage trucks.
Looking for advice on these. Anything common I should watch for? anything to stay away from?
I loved my 06 4runner but I need a truck.
It is what it is.

The 4.0 V6 is a good engine , but don't discount the 2.7 with a manual trans behind it, in the 05 and newer trucks. Peppy and tough as nails.

Mine is an 08 with the 4.0 and 276,??? Miles. So far so good. I wish the automatic transmission at least had a dipstick so I could check the level and color of the fluid.
Yeah , those sealed transmissions are a hoot. I have a 05 Runner and it was a real head scratcher.

Yeah , those sealed transmissions are a hoot. I have a 05 Runner and it was a real head scratcher. You can still have the trans fluid changed via the cooling lines

My brother bought an 07 off here that had over 400k miles and still ran like new with the original engine and transmission.

Highway gas mileage is going to be a solid 20 mpg. Mine (05) rides stiff but is a bulletproof machine. I have @150,000 on mine and no issues at all. I did have the thermometer on the roof of the cab go out about 5 years ago. It also had a compass that showed which direction you were traveling. Both to me were useless and I never fixed it. I am considering buying another one except with an automatic transmission. It is getting harder for me to change all six gears out on the manual transmission now that I am in my 60's. If you are still looking for one in a couple of years, this one may be available unless the grandson takes a liking to it.
Buy the color you like because you will be looking at it for many years!

I think my neighbor is about to sell one If you want me to ask about it??? I know he takes care of it and he’s a car nut. He changes oil and works on it himself. It’s silver and I would consider a crew cab but not familiar with Toyotas but 4door and he pulls a little light wt camper with it. He also had a remodeled transam and a c10 so like I said he takes care of his stuff PM sent.

I would recommend a late 90s with the 2.7. just my opinion Mines bumping 290,000 miles and all I’ve done is buy batteries an alternator, tires and change the oil. I dread the day I have to replace it
