This is the only way to give accurate feedback.
I’ll even get CNC to make you a chart that represents my findings.

I'm probably gonna need to tag along on this one just to verify the data being collected.

My opinion is that there are 2 types of wild turkeys - pressured turkeys and unpressured turkeys. The second group is easy anywhere, but the first group can be very difficult anywhere. I found a group of Rios in KS that were just as paranoid as any in AL. The ranchers hated them, shot at them with rifles, and did everything they could to exterminate them. They were not easy to kill at all. But turkeys 30 miles away were just plain dumb.

I have read on a forum about Michigan turkey hunting and one of the guys had been on a hunt in AL. He was adamant that they should keep their short season and one bird limit so that their turkeys would never become like the monsters in AL that wouldn't respond to his calling. smile

BC: I’m flattered that you remember me. It was a pleasure meeting you and your boy.
I miss the guys at JC but the 850 miles one way drive got to be too much for a 75 year old back and butt.

I've never even watched one of their shows, but I'm not surprised at anyone struggling on AL public land. This guy was just some random poster on a forum. I don't remember the name of the forum, but it stuck with me that he wanted his Yankee turkeys to remain dumb so that he could kill one.

Any wild Turkey hunt I been on out of state has consistently easier than what I get in Bama

I went last week of season to SD years back and this guy had been hunted - but his birds were still simi stupid

I can’t speak for everywhere - turkeys are survivors - the more u fools w them the tougher they get - rios and meriams were easier and those birds were fooled with I hunted - but the ones in Marengo county been fooled w hard since the 70s

I was riding over to Louisville to check out some timber cutting they were doing on a club I used to hunt trying to decide if I wanted to fool with it next season.

Cass: The highlight of my trips to Clayton was eating at your family’s restaurant. The quality of your ribeyes is comparable to the finest Chicago steakhouse, at half the price. The cute waitresses, especially your sister and mom, added to the ambiance.

I’m actually in the middle of moving back to my farm on Hagler’s Mill rd right now. We just sold our Troy house(finally) and I can’t wait to get back to where I need to be. I’m renting that other place to a teacher from Mobile. I saw that joker in there again this morning at 9am, I’ve been trying to let my wife kill him but he’s a dead bird walking lol I’ve never heard more birds on Gerald tew than I have this year, I hope y’all stick around and keep that place. My buddy Santino has a tract right before you get to lighter knot chicken farm and they seemed to be all over the places y’all hunt on that road. Holler at me next time you’re down and we will let trigger man hammer one if he hasn’t already tagged out👍

He would love that and he has not tagged out yet. I’m coming down this weekend to try and get my wife a bird. If he decides he wants to come I’ll give you a shout and y’all can try to tag team one if you want. I doubt he will come down though…..’he’s been busy with the women here lately lol.

Funny story.

A member of this site and I were turkey hunting in Nebraska in a creek bottom. We’re sitting there taking a rest and blind calling when I see these two whitetail bucks pop up out of the creek. I could tell they were bucks because their antlers were just starting to form a ball at the pedicle. These two bucks walked up the trail and got within 10 feet of us when the lead buck saw me and just stopped. He stood there and just looked at me with his head cocked sideways. My buddy whispered “Get rid of them”, so I just waved my hand and said in a normal voice “Get out of here”. Deer just stood there and looked at me like I was crazy. I reached into my vest and took a little camera I kept in there at the time and took a picture hoping the flash would scare them. They just stood there and looked at me like I had two heads. I finally picked up a stick and threw it and hit one of them in the ribs and all I got was a flinch from the one I hit and the other one blew. Again they just stood there for a long time and finally meandered off.

I’ve seen mule deer up there bed on the side of busy highway within 8 feet of the pavement and just sit there and watch cars pass by. I’ve seen them standing in the road like cattle and you have to get out of the truck and shoo them off the road. It’s crazy the difference in a Midwest deer and a Southern deer. Like two totally different species.
