and you were ready for a change of scenery from Jackson County as your primary Alabama turkey county, and say you wanted to keep the drive to under 2 hours, which area would you be looking in? Where are the turkey numbers these days from a general area perspective?

Lol! Already hunt TN a bunch. Zero issues there (other than insufficient number of tags 😬🤣). I mainly want something to enjoy opening week of Alabama.

I always figured that group of counties that has enough birds to have a fall season.

Why the hell would you want to have to wake up at 0300 to make a 2 hour drive?

Though I’m not above that and do it from time to time on TN hunts, I would end up staying in a cheap hotel a couple times a season most likely. In all honesty, I’d prolly get up at midnight tonight and drive til first light if someone would guarantee me a classic woods turkey that gobbled on the ground, came to calling, and gobbled a time or two on the way to let me know he was coming. Awfully damn hard to come by anymore for me….in Alabama anyway.

Where you headed pal? I’ll be in TN for 4 days this coming Friday, but I might be up for a jaunt at some point after that!

Cherokee county is usually really good, despite the bull gamecheck numbers My uncle had access to a place in Cherokee county a few years ago. I went up and looked at with before the season and it was loaded with turkeys. I talked with several locals who told me that was pretty normal in the area. It was in the Centre area.

Cherokee Co is the top county in the state according to the numbers......I think its like the second smallest county maybe but it produces something like 1 gobbler for every 850 acres and a big portion of the county is taken up by Weiss Lake so its actually a lot lower than that. It would probably be a good place to look at the variable of...... "What is going right in this location?"

I see several birds along Hwy 72 between Huntsville and Gurley and even more between Gurley and Paint Rock . But since you don’t want to hunt in Jackson county forget the second part ! 😜
