Was talking at work about turkey. some one asked if you could hunt turkey from a tree stand. I said nope sure can’t. Then someone pulled the law up. Just interested in how y’all comprehend how it reads.

Sounds like u can't hunt from a scaffold bowhunting 😀

Sounds like you can hunt turkeys from a tree stand, as long as you’re bow hunting and not gun hunting

Assuming that a tree stand falls within the legal definition of a ‘scaffold’. The ‘except wild turkey’ clarification applies to gun hunting from a scaffold. Not to bowhunting from a scaffold

Yep, some commas or parentheses around ‘except wild turkey’ would make it a lot clearer

Only thing in question to me is defining scaffold.

1a : a temporary or movable platform for workers (such as bricklayers, painters, or miners) to stand or sit on when working at a height above the floor or ground. b : a platform on which a criminal is executed (as by hanging or beheading) c : a platform at a height above ground or floor level.

So, c: a platform at a height above ground or floor level can be used on all but turkey. Scaffold exception for turkey exception is also for bow hunting.

I'm not bow hunting Turkeys, but if I did I'd take it to mean its ok as long as I'm not using a firearm.

Over 200 views makes me think that everyone is questioning what they always thought was the law.

“To each man their own” but if I’m hunting turkey, it’s from the ground… do what you do I don’t mind

More unreasonable crap from game&fish. Why does it matter if you are elevated? Can I hunt from a hill? How about from a rock overlook? Why would a ladder stand or tree stand be different if I am gun hunting?

I don’t know much about turkey hunting, but the old timers always told me about killing dozens of them at a time sitting on a Brickmason’s scaffold.

Said it works best if the sun is in your face too.

Should be no closed season, with a limit only on number of gobblers in a calendar year.

The idea that multiple states have a fall season, but Alabama and Georgia don't, is just stupid.

I don't have a problem with a limit of 2-3 per year, but why do you care how and when I shot them? Why is a shotgun more ethical than a rifle? Again, why would the state care?

The man had a chart for those questions, hadn’t showed up in this thread yet though…
