Athletes have been using some kind of medicinal assistance for decades, from cocaine or "fortified" beef liver shakes and more snake oil in the 1800s to today's expanse of harmless weed to blood transfusions and macronutrients.
If weed helps a guy relax after he's beaten the everlovingchit out of someone for three hours in an arena being yelled at by 90,000 people -- who will idolize him or demean him based on the outcome -- so be it.

We're going to hear from a bunch of old white guys at some point that they can't believe weed is being allowed and back in their day Ol' Coach Asskicker wouldn't have stood for that!
That's because Ol' Coach Asskicker put his players back in with concussions and called them pussybabies if they didn't play with bones sticking out or an eye out of the socket. Players drank, took speed, downers, the pros and colleges shot them up with cortisone and taped or laced more tightly, and when you couldn't walk or run or tackle anymore Ol' Coach Asskicker benched you for being a pussybaby and put in the next guy.
Old Whitey BoosterBoi doesn't want to hear that, though, because it challenges that notion of purity and control, mostly the latter, along with DRUGS! because that reefer is the gateway to EllEssDeee and probably fornication and who knows what else!?!?!
It's just reefer. That's probably far less problematic than the synthetic weed Dyer and others were vaping at Auburn 12 years ago. Dang sure is less of a problem than coke or other drugs.
