Also, I have traditionally had better luck fishing right at dawn or dusk. I like overcast days too. A spinning reel and a tiny inline spinner on an ultralight rig isn't a bad place to start. If you're after a full creel to throw on the grill then a small can of whole kernal Corn is good. For that you'll want a #10 or #12 egg hook with a tiny splitshot about a foot up the line. You can't go wrong with 2-4 lb. clear mono or even fluorocarbon.

We'll need pics when you get back. 👍🏻

As mentioned, check generation schedule and getting there before first light will give you the best results and you wont have to contend with many other people. even on weekends, if you get there 30 min before sunrise you wont have many people there and on a good day it's not hard to catch your limit and be out of there by 9:00am when it really starts getting crowded.

We went Monday evening with the water up but no generation and wore them out at the dam on the trail side. The funniest thing happened when 3 young men showed up. They saw me and my wife catching and releasing and immediately they came right next to us to fish the same spot…the exact same spot, like lines in the water same spot. Normally that would irritate me but it was quite humorous to see the audacity and lack of courtesy. One shouted out “what are you using?” A few minutes go by and then comes “do you have an extra?” I was generous and gave him a lure and jig and told him how to use it. I watched his frustration and finally he jumps up and says “hey you gonna throw all them fish back?” I said yep and he asked could he have them. I said sure and caught him 5 to keep. The remarkable thing was he was a nice enough young man … but …. somewhere along the line was apparently never taught the common courtesy of space nor that of saying thank you. We had a blast but also felt kind of sad that some young folks just don’t seem to have the common knowledge we were raised on.

Fishing is supposed to be fun. Getting up that early (It’s an hour plus drive) ain’t fun.

If y’all don’t mind, go over to YouTube to my page and like and subscribe, “Bama Creek Bum”

We are rednecks!

I just recently started the YouTube channel and I plan on adding several fishing videos this summer, wading creeks, fishing the Little River, floating the Cahaba, floating the Elk River, etc.

Hopefully I’ll get better at the videoing thing as time goes on.
