Wow - never looked at Sitka gear - some of the first stuff I looked at was $600-$700 for 1 item. Dang it man - that high - it ought to work I hear ya , the only way I own the Duck Oven jacket was bought it used for about 25% of retail . It is a mighty fine coat .

Kryptek vellus fleece. Waterproof, windproof, quiet and thin. Comes with removable hood. I guarantee wind will not go through it. Bought one from midwayusa and absolutely love it. I've got the Vellus fleece set too this season and have been totally happy with it thus far. Love having the pit zips to dump heat when necessary.

CR78. Where did you get yours from There's no place local to me that sells Kryptek, so I actually just ordered through Amazon. Used Prime and ordered a couple different sizes, and shipped back what didn't fit.

If you are on a budget and don't want to tear a $1000 outfit to shreds in briars try a lightweight or mid-weight lined waterproof or water resistient jacket and pants as outer layer or layer under camo. Maybe carry in to put on when wind is blowing. Not as quiet as some better garments, but for windy days a good option. Most of the thicker clothes you won't need in Alabama the rest of the season. . I bought an orvis sweater with fleece inside at Costco plus a Spyder midweight sweater (one size smaller than I normally wear). I think I was all in for less than $60. I have a light weight cabelas scent lok jacket (the old cabelas before B.P. ruined it). So, the light weight shell is the answer to your question, I have merino wool and other garments bundled up underneath. I have bought so many clothes over the years. I will buy something new every few years because of rips, tears, etc. Heavy briars can make a mess out of most of today's hunting clothes. I just haven't gotten into the buy once, cry once, type of expensive clothing. It is hard to fork over that kind of money. Sitka and these other big name brands need to have huge sales like JO. S. A. Bank does on their suits and end of year outer garments.
