I get more from the kitchen window than the woods. Its more like grocery shopping at this point

Two roads diverged in the woods and I took the one with deep ruts, hills and mud.It may be bumpy but WHAT A RIDE!

I haven’t been since December 12. Killed 2 bucks with my bow and one of them is at the taxidermist. Killed one doe with my rifle and had 3 does killed at my buddy’s place given to me. That makes a total of 6 deer I've had processed. So my freezer is slap full. I most likely won’t go anymore this season. That big 8 in October made my season. Hoping to draw a mule deer tag for Wyoming next season. Planning on doing a guided archery hunt for elk before long while I’m not too crippled up to do it.

I killed a real good deer in bow season too and several does. If it wasn’t for my kids this year I’d likely not hunted much in gun season. I went some in November and early December but I have hunted less during the prime time to kill a good buck than any time I’ve ever hunted. I literally don’t have any desire. It didn’t help that the entire season there wasn’t a single deer to really get excited to hunt either.

After about 40 yrs I don't have the fire, I once had. I'm on my second year without deer hunting. I've still got meat in the freezer, wife's gone, son is off in college and could care less, daughter is doing her thing with friends. I just can't justify the $2k just for membership. I had a good run, not saying I won't ever go again but at this point I don't know. I don't have the same passion that's for sure. Much rather be up on the river.

I enjoy pre season prep and bow season. After that...meh. I’d rather be offshore or killing crappie.

Cal I agree. The pre season and than the Bow hunting is great. I love the unpressured deer of bow and the Muzzleloader seasons the best. But the rut gets me going too. I love seeing all the young bucks chasing, the grunting and stuff.

I've been at out farm since Xmas since I'm semi retired and hunted everyday but one so far. I'll sleep in a lot and go out at eight, stay to twelve. But I have hunted almost every afternoon. My wife was joking with me today that am I ever going to go home? Or not until the seasons over? Lol. I told her you know me. thumbup

I’m about the same but I do spend the weekend with my wife. I head out Monday morning and come back Thursday or Friday.

Luckily my wife is here with me . She loves our hunting land and little place here. Shes a real outdoors girl. Loves the woods.

I hunted hard through my 20s. Last 5 of those years was mostly bow hunting. Divorce, custody of my kids, remarried, career change and I took a 10 year vacation from it. Picked it back up out of the blue, killed my biggest deer, rifle and was mad at them again. Other folks were hunting the property and shooting younger bucks and I was not seeing the age class of deer i wanted to hunt. Along with my youngest son doing the high school bass fishing and I am almost back to not hunting. I have almost quit hunting again. I have kept feeding a group of does, about 10 in the bunch now for several years. They have grown very accustomed to me and will not spook unless I get closer than 15 yards from them. Call it lazy if you want but I have had more buck encounters at my house this year than the last 10 years. The run has been pretty cool for me this year and it's about done here so it's time to go fishing. I'm like a lot of you guys, don't really have to kill one to enjoy it.

David

Every year I say I'm not going to hunt as much as I did last year. I never get the fire until I get in the woods the first time and realize how quiet it is and how there's no body bothering me with stupid shucks. I very seldom kill anything but money and time but it's worth it for the peace and quiet.

Can some of you guys that are losing interest pm your lease information. I am still really really mad at em and would love to relieve yall of some property. For everybody that doesn't care for deer but keeps it for turkey, thats great I don't really care for turkeys. I am kidding... kind of. But seriously pm me some info.

I guess I'm the odd one. I picked it up later in life and tagged out this year with this being my fifteenth year of hunting. Last year I hunted hard but didnt kill one. I was discouraged and swore I was going to cut back. Then I get into the woods and I get the relentless desire to get after them again.

I turned 40 this year. I LOVE to hunt but my style is evolving. My job is more demanding and stressful than it’s ever been so I find myself going to hunt for the relaxation more than anything. I still want to kill a good buck but I’m not putting in the scouting time that I have in years past.

I’ll flip the switch come March 😀

I’m 43 and on my 36th year hunting. Killed more bucks in the past 5 than I have in the previous 30. I try and hunt smarter now but once the rut is done I’m typically ready for it to warm up so I can play golf. 10 years ago I would still be hunting hard through the last day. Hunting kinda gets boring after the rut.

This, I haven't been one damn time this season, it's even more BS hunting strictly public land, digital check-in, remembering to keep the signed paper map at all times, dragging deer out by foot only, check station to weigh deer, jawbone age, blah blah. It's genuinely just too much bulldoodoo especially considering hunting around abunch of clowns. Not to mention dragging my younguns with me that are losing interest faster than me cuz they tired of staring at trees.

Between the ridiculous regulations from the DCNR, outrageous lease prices, etc…it just isn’t worth it to me.

Me and a few guys were just talking about this last week. With land being so hard to lease, so overpriced, and so few deer, it honestly makes more sense to save money and go to Texas or some other state every 3 to 4 years.

You can see more deer in a week in some places outside Alabama than you might see in a decade in Alabama.

Investing money and time into hunting in this state, unless you are a fortune person with exceptional property, is a sunken cost.
