257's daughter's buck got me to thinking (fantastic buck btw) do yall think there is a correlation between double throat patches and big racks? i swear, I rarely see an AL deer with a double throat patch, but when I do, they always seem to be in a grip & grin photo with a stud of a buck.
Correlation or coincidence?

I have a 10 point mounted that scored 146-5/8" gross and netted 144-1/8" after 90 days drying period. He has a double white throat patch. Don't know if there is any truth to it but I was told that it is a characteristic of a Northern strain of deer that was stocked in Alabama back in the 50's. I believe the guy that told me that said they came from Michigan or Missouri, I can't remember which state he said. I have no idea if he knew what he was talking about or not.

Matt's daughters deer will make a fine looking mount with that double throat patch.
Can't wait to see it!

Just means that double patch lived long enough to get grown That's true of all of them. I'm just curious if the gene that causes a DTP might also typically be found in deer with superior antler genetics? If the 1:100 number is accurate, seems I see a higher rate than that of DTP bucks in grip & grins.

Both large antlers and double throat patches are a direct result from the frequent visitation to a Clorox stump. Well, there it is, we have the answer. Next question please.

Killed lots of deer, my best buck had double throat patch, makes an awesome mount. I understand about one in a hundred. My dad got one a few years ago. His taxidermist was excited, said he'd never done one. He said it was closer to 1/1000. But I don't have a dog in this race. I think it's old age, and they gray there first. I've got a few years on me, and have a double chin patch. 😁

Skullworks, that buck got a double dose of browtines and bases instead of double throat patch. Is that an Alabama deer?

It was killed in Macon County over close to Tallassee.

I’ve killed a few bucks over the years with a double throat patch. I’ve seen some does with it, as well.
83% of all statistics are made up.

My wife's biggest was a double patch, my 3 biggest were single.
So, of your combined 4 largest bucks, 25% of them had DTP? Again, seems to be a substantially higher % than 1:100 or 1:1,000

It was killed in Macon County over close to Tallassee. I used to hunt in between the river and dog track. Saw a couple like that from that area. Also the area where I lost my biggest buck too. It of big deer on both sides of the river from 229 to 231
